Welcome back Jack.
I expected it to happen earlier, but hey, -
Do you have any specs? I'm interested as I am planning to purchase the W1J within a couple of months...

As for the specs....its not totally confirmed but it looks somewhat like a widescreen V6 series, so a thin and light mainstream laptop with a powerful GPU -
It surely does look nice. I've been also looking at the F3J/Z96J. Been thinking if I should have waited instead of getting a Z70VA. Oh well, such is life

The V1j is a sweet system....... or it will be.... I just think personally I've grown out of anything larger than a 14" widescreen - or a 15" regular ratio..... I have it in good faith that the V1 will be about a half pound lighter than the Z70.... and as thin as the V6....... The Z70 really comes in at 6.25-6.5 when it's all said and done and they claim the V6 is at 5.75, even though I weigh it in at about 5.5....... but regardless..... it's going to be right at 6 pounds give or take and that's nice...
plus you've got:
1. 1.3mp web cam
2. finger print scanner between the left and right click buttons -
Does anybody know when it will be available?

So right now, I'm banking on back to school time..... but could very well be earlier - but most likely if it changes, it's always later... -
Oohh, looks good.
I wonder if the web cam is 180 degrees, like the W5 ones -
Justin, would you be able to explain me the difference between the W1J and V1J?
The only difference I've been able to discover is the W1J comes with a WSXGA screen and the W1V with a WXGA... -
They physically look different, the W1 was more of a media machine, I really liked the W1n but it was heavier and pricey.
Does the W1j have a glossy screen? If so, it would be the first 15.4" glare type WSXGA+! -
the W1 is so much better looking than the V1....IMHO
-

The V1j WILL no doubt come here with a WSXGA+ screen.... I don't like to bank on anything, but for me to buy that model, it would need it... and I like to think my priorities are on the same page as most of the potential buyers....... and since I have the power to sell or not sell an item, I know that Asus takes that into consideration as well when ordering...... but the guys at Asus are like me and they'll pass on the first wave of V1j's if Taiwan say they ONLY have a certian screen for now..... so I think it'll be safe.
The W1 is a bigger machine........ it looks like the W2 and we used to carry the W1n, but haven't carried the refreshed for almost two years now. It goes about 7 pounds and it's just a bigger machine...... it's really small, but the V1 is just like the V6, so it makes the W1 just look like a monster......
Plus, the V1 is an all new chassis, so they could impliment new things into it like the camera and finger print scanner, etc. -
According to some Germans the W1J is expected to have a WSXGA+ screen, however, the final config. hasn't been announced yet.
Edit: Thanks Justin! -

Looks like an awesome system...but looks like it's going to be expensive too ($2000+ USD) which is out my budget!
However, that wallpaper on the V1J looks sweet... -

Without a doubt this is going to fill the gap created between the V6j and W2j..... $1,900 to $2500... I can see them making the configuration so it fits in at about $2,200... Given this is like the fraternal twin to the Macbook Pro (I think that's going for $2,500 or so right? ...... My guess is the configuration (cpu, ram, hard drive) will be above what Apple is offering and yet a a few hundred less......
-
I hope it arrvies soon. This $2000 is burning a hole in my pocket
-
i can spare you my pocket for your 2000 if you want..

Depending on the European release date and price of both the V1j and the W1j I'll make my decision.
I must say, the W1J looks far better in my opinion, but its heavier and bigger as well... -
"It is unlikely this model will come over to the U.S."
Quote from ASUS while on the phone my agent
For some reason no one things it makes sense to have Core 2 Duo in a 15.4.
I think it makes perfect sense. Oh well for now.. -
-
This is the V1J
I have good news to follow the bad...
The V96JS is very similar and is based on Core Duo processor.
However....ASUS has a BIOS update that is not yet released that will support the Core 2 Duo.
I was able to pull some strings and am getting tech to email it to me as I type. If anyone has one and wants to upgrade processors, PM and I'll host the file and send you the link. -
So the V1J is not coming to the US?
I am going to end my life. -
It's the nicest notebook I've seen...online that is

The V1j won't be, but the V1jp will. The jp will be the Core 2 Duo model and at this time it's set to have a 256mb ATI x1700 in it. The big hold up to date is that Asus isn't going to even consider importing it until it has a Merom cpu in it and the docking station is complete...... right now they haven't mass produced those yet.
The simple fact is that Asus needs both a 15.4" in the Ensemble lineup again and the W1j is out, so the V1 is the only option........ and they're in dire need of a pure, high end business machine... again, the V1 is the only option. Asus' plans seem to be set on refreshing all of the current models first and then getting in new models like the V1. -
I might not end my life after all.
-
Wonderful!
-
so its still only out in europe right?
-
the W1j does exist? i saw mention of it before being the 15.4' version of the 17'' W2j but then never saw it available anywhere
so what 15.4'' models are there for Asus? definatley no thin ones other then the elusive v1j that seems only in europe and is super expensive if you even can import it.
i wont be waiting not even for the W2P with hddvd and hdmi out, prob just get a v6j upgraded with a core 2 duo processor now that that is possible from merchant i found, and upgrade the ram and hdd . possibly get the ips screen found on the v6va as a separate part which supposedly can be had cheap and -put on a v6j
that will make for a pretty sweet laptop. -

V1JP-AK006P is now available on our site...pretty impressive specs!
They are in stock and shipping daily -
I really hope that this laptop is upgradeable to 2 GB of RAM. According to these specs http://www.notebookshop.sk/pdf/V1_spec.pdf
..it is. If so, I'll get this instead of the G1 I was waiting for. Yup, will pay more for the quality and weight. -
It's definitely upgradeable to 2Gb, some sites even claim 4Gb (which is very probably a false claim though).
-
upgradeable to 4 gb
but right now the 2 gb dims cost 500$ each.
I dont know of any nbr owner that has bought one actually even the expensive laptop owners.
Youll need a 64 bit os to address more than 2 gb -
was thinking about a second laptop for at some point (let wife have one to herself) but was prob going to go with a sony or an HP to be cheaper now that I'm over asus after getting my first one. I do see the build quality over the other two brands I mentioned I like. but the price is just so much better on sony and hp especially deals chain stores have and online and models from those brands have plenty of good looks/style.
how does the v1j compare to v6j spec but more especially look/feel/style/form/weight/thinness wise etc. specs can be read but with asus you cant see/ touch one in person at local store.
was going to maybe go with a 17'' for second one as we have 15'' covered with v6j, I usually like largest screen possible and was thinking the asus w2p or hp 17'' both with hddvd drive. was mostly going to use it for home but got xbox 360 hddvd addon so don't need hddvd drive in laptop anymore really unless for portable if I do get more hdvd movie discs. but 17'' isn't very portable plus with not much free table space around house and notebook being used mostly on the lap, sofa, (places where it can't be too big etc.) 17'' is prob too large/bulky (though asus w2p is supposed to be thin 17'' but prob is still big) so maybe should consider smaller then 15'' for something different size range wise to complement the v6j.
but I like the 15'' size range (as I said I like big but 17 won't be portable and will be even possibly too bulky on lap/sofa andsmaller then 15 is a little too small for my taste though I'm typing this on a ppc phone with 3'' screen how ironic. but I use a 20" desktop monitor, prob getting 24 plus 67,60 & 42" tvs) and the v6j is a square 4:3 screen so at least a 15.4'' widescreen will be slight diff.
but how can I justify the asus v1j price over the 15.4'' sony vaio (FE series I think) or a comparable 15.4'' HP? I don't think I can. first time I had to go asus because I had to see what all the enthusiasm/hype was and prob would hav e always wondered and again I do see the build quality difference but not much else where its better and at what expense ? significantly much higher price and even several cons compared to a sony or hp including featureslike included software, support etc etc. more usb ports and othe usefull ports etc
kind of wish I would have waited for v1j but needed laptop sooner and in a way the square screen of v6j is a rarity and can't be found in local chain store sony or hp while 15.4'' size like the v1j can be. and just as thin and stylish too (just more plasticky and not quite as good of build quality as asus) though for all I know the v1j could be not as solid metal/carbon fiber as v6j and be just as plasticky as sony and HP (and other worse major brands)
so ill check it out but unless there is somewhere I can compare the look and feel of a v1j next to a comparable HP and sony vaio then ill prob go with one of those 2 and prob the sony vaio FE. -
found the v1j for a decent price same place i got my v6j
but id want to wait for it to come down and for a rebate.
i never received the rebate for my v6j though so i have no confidence in Asus.
for that and other reasons especially the much higher price of Asus. i was just going to go with an HP or Sony Vaio prob next. -
It's still new for the V1J, probably should wait for a while may be they will have rebate like Lenovo ThinkPad.
-
yeah i'm sure there will be rebate eventually just like the other asus and usually the more expensive the model the higher the rebate.
but the v6j even with rebate was still very high priced for a laptop and for what it had. i know i have one. The build quality is second to none but I can't help but to second think a decent looking hp or sony vaio with possibly more features and for less money for my next laptop with win vista. -
v1j isn't on ewiz.com anymore. did it sell out on there or did they just stop carrying it?
