I inserted the recovery DVD and went through the recovery process then the DVD ejected and it is now asking me for the "Driver CD". I've tried all the discs that came with the machine and none of them seem to be the "Driver CD" as the machine keeps ejecting them. It is saying "cannot open D:\i386\recovery.dat please insert the Driver CD"
Does anyone else have this problem or could help me out with a copy of the Driver CD?
thanks in advance
D.

its the DVD marked "Drivers" I think its silver and blue, try giving it a clean. or you can just hit okay next whatever and it will shut down and restart with a fresh copy of vista, just none of the asus drivers or programs will be installed.

Yep, I even recommend to do it like matt says. Then you can just install the drivers and forget about all the bloatware.

must be something wrong with my drivers disk, I did as you said and downloaded the drivers from the asus site and installed them all, however I am left with 'serial port' and 'small communications device' in the device manager that I have no drivers for? any ideas where I can get them? I seem to remember there being no issues in the device manager before I went through the recovery process?
thanks in advance -
If you don't need the serial port (is there one?!?) then just ignore that. Small communications device - what network stuff don't you have installed? Ethernet / Wireless Ethernet / Modem / IR / Bluetooth?
-
there is no serial port on the machine itself that's why i found it strange.

I have been in contact with asus tech support and apparently a full download of the drivers CD for V1S is available from www.asustreiber.de
so I'm going to try that.
