The screen on my V1s was blank, however when I plugged in an external monitor this worked correctly.

    I have tried the following:
    - fn f7/f8
    - reseated the connectors on the screen and the inverter
    - reseated gpu
    - reseated ram
    - reseated hdd
    - pulled the battery, power on button a few times, plug into mains, boot
    - reset button (on the bottom of the laptop)

After this......the external display would not work either, d'oh!

The other things I have noticed (since making the changes)
    - there is no beep at boot any more (caps lock and num lock flash on/off)
    - the fan is spinning flat out from the moment its powered on

I can't really tell if the o/s is loading, though there is a lot of hdd activity some time after booting (seems to take longer for this activity to kick in than what I remember).

I have reseated everything again, and tried one ram module at a time. Not too sure what to try next....

    Any help greatly appreciated!

I should also add that when the external screen was working,fnf8 to toggle the notebook screen/external monitor was working. fnf7 to turn off/on the notebook screen was working too (although the screen was not working, it was getting power as you could see the difference when toggling off/on).

Neither are working now (the keyboard does still work as you can toggle caps lock and see the light go on/off).

That sounds like it could be multiple things actually. I would suspect first that the GPU has gone bad with some of those symptoms, but it could be as simple as a bad cable. I think your best bet at this point would be to contact the manufacturer to see about an RMA, especially if it is still under warranty.

I think the V1S has the defective 8600M GT, look into the nvidia 'underfill' problem.

I'm not sure why your external screen would stop working after disassembling it, it may be a motherboard problem if the GPU isn't the issue.
