When these come out which will be better overall?
-
-
all i need is a little feedback...i know im stupid
-
Check the current reviews/comments of the V1j/v2j, they should be the exact same.
-
Mainly V1 is larger (and slightly thinner, I think), but has a better video card. The last thing might change though with the Santa Rosa versions.
-
Doesn't the V1 have a better build? And battery issues as well?

First of all you are comparing a 15.4" laptop (V1J) to a 14" laptop (V2J).
Are you looking for more portability, or more performance? The current V1JP is more powerfull graphic wise, and also has the multi-bay. But has a battery problem.
The current V2J has a low end video card X1450, which is about half as powerfull as the X1700. The screen is smaller, than the V1JP, the features are the same for the most part. The battery life is a little on the low side but Asus provided 2 batteries with the laptop.
The build quality seemed about the same to me.
Overall you are deciding between 2 things, portability and performance.
This should give you some idea of what the new V1S and V2S should be like. -
-
man it should be portable and powerful...
Boohoo...W3J..
-
When is the V1s likely to be released?
-
I"ve heard late july. I'm interested to know the specs and the pricing though...
-
v1s for me!
-
what kind of battery life would be expected of the v2s?
-
v2s and a eee for me =D
-
waiting for the final specs and price of course

V2S on a chinese site. Cheapest is 12000rmb which is about 1578 USD.
8600M G and 1.98kg! (~4.3lbs)
http://product.pcpop.com/000052951/Index.html -
My sources indicate a 8600GS 256mb as well, hope that can get confirmed soon.
-

If the V2S has the 8600GS...
-
Trust me, it will. Well, either that or the 8400GS.
-
-
Too bad Singapore is selling the V2J for like $2600 US, while the V1Jp was closer to $2000-$2100 . . . (They're very likely to hold the current prices with refreshed models judging from the G1 & G2 they're selling . . .) -
-
The V1s looks really promising to me. The MBP and the MSI GX600/163a are the other things I'm considering strongly, but the V1s looks like it takes care of the little gripes that I have. I do have some constraints on time, I'd need to order in the next couple of weeks, so I'm wondering when the V1s is set to come out. I see posts from a month back stating dates that have come and gone. Does anyone have any idea when the V1s will be making its debut? I could find essentially nothing online. I just hope it isn't too pricey. If it's about $2000, I'd have a hard time saying no, but if it's $2500, that would be a deal breaker. Here's hoping.
-
Heh, isn't that always the way, I spend several hours searching, then finally post my question, and I find the answer 5 minutes later. Check out the thread if you were wondering as well.

I just noticed that the V1S can be found in the UK here. Is this the very V1S that people are discussing in this thread?
(Edit: Looking further at the description on that page, sometimes they mention the V1S and sometimes they mention the V1jp. Not sure exactly what they mean)
Anyway... The V2s is a new discovery to me, and I must say, it's quite the laptop. Just to check (and get myself up to speed), are the following correct about the V2S:
14.1" with a 1440x900 resolution
Will have a 8600 Gx (x is to be determined)
Will be out soon (before the end of July)
It's a very tempting laptop (especially if the above turn out to be true). I understand that the V series are a very high quality line, so I suspect they'll be quite expensive (compared to the A line, at any rate). I guess the pricing would be around the same as the V1S (see the above link for UK prices)?
It's a bit steep, but the laptop has a heck of a lot of features. More than the Zepto. Zepto are being quite slow too, which is making me question their 14"er. The F8 would be perfect, but it's too far away. The V2s seems like a F8, but better quality and sooner (for added price, of course). (And it looks likely that the F8 will have a 8600GT, wheras the V2S will probably be a G or GS). -
Just wish the V2s weren't overpriced in Singapore ......
-
V2S, because I find 15+ inch notebooks too big.
-
I contacted an online ASUS dealer in the UK (nexus13) about the V2s and got this response...
.
-
The V2S will be available in four days at Swedish retailer Komplett for 15495:- SEK or ~2370$. A8Sc is still in stock. However, still not much for the specs. That will perhaps change in four days time.
http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=338053 -
Not too expensive. I thought it would debute at about 17000 SEK.
-
-
Nexus are already listing the V1S on their website as 'comming soon' so I suspect that it'll be out this month (probably quite soon). -
As for the V2s, I pressed the retailer for more info and got this response:
(Sorry about the double post) -
It has the 8600GS with 256MB, but I don't know why this is so bad, in the end you can overclock it to match the 8600G because they are the same chip. And it supposedly weighs 1.98Kg, which is a 100g lighter than my PowerBook 12".

Seriously, I would buy this right now if it were available here. -
From asus sales:
-
Some information from a New Zealand retailer...
-
still nothing on their global/usa/australian sites and so far people are giving out conflicting specs as well.
what's going on with this notebook? -
I've been offered a V1S in the UK but not available untill 2nd august 2007. I originally ordered V1JP. Heres a copy of the email:
Thank you for your call, unfortunately we have been contacted by our Asus destributor and have been informed the Asus V1JP AK028E is end of life. I have put the spec to the laptops direct replacement in this email. We can have this unit sent to you at the same price as the Asus V1JP AK028E and will be avalible on the 2nd of August. If you have any other enquiries please don't hesitate to email me.
I apologise for the delay and any inconvenience.

FYI I ordered the V1JP for £1223 gbp all in. -
8600GT
(minor, but the T7500 is 2.2ghz)
-
-
2nd of august? WoW, hope it's the same date of release for north-ameria
-
Obviously they don't have it listed yet, they are offering it to me as they can't obtain v1jp any more and the v1s is it's direct replacement.
I have emailed to have them confirm full specs and a date when I will receive it. -
Cheers Coolnquiet.
Also:
There seems to be a mistake on ExcaliberPC's site. It says that the V1S and V2S are the same dimensions and weight:
14.30" x 10.36" x 0.99-1.41"
5.6 lbs.
http://www.excaliberpc.com/Asus_V2S-A1_Intel_Core_2_Duo_T7500/partinfo-id-580882.html
http://www.excaliberpc.com/ASUS_V1S-A1_Intel_Core_2_Duo_T7500/partinfo-id-580877.html
The V2S will obviously be lighter and smaller. -
I believe 14.30" would be the dimensions for a 15.4" laptop (V1s/V1Jp). The old Asus V2Je was about 13.5" long.
-
V2, its much smaller and lighter, but doesn't give up that much graphics capability. Plus, its cheaper.
-
News about the V1S and V2S posted on a German website. Article links: Original Translated
Interesting points:
* Availability in Germany expected to be from the beginning of August.
* The V2S has GDDR3
* Recommended retail prices (for Germany, inc. tax):
V1S: 1,599 -> £1,072
V2S: 1,799 -> £1,206
It would seem they expect the V2S to be more expensive (usually it was cheaper?)
(Also, these prices seem to be way off, for the UK at least. Current V1S pre-order prices are £1,250!) -
Does it really have a GDDR3.
The 8600GS GDDR3 = 8600GT DDR2.
It can score 3600 in 3DMark06.
Check that thread post#28. -
I really hope it has GDDR3. (It makes sense for the V2S to have it - GDDR3 uses less power, right? So it'd be more portable.)
At any rate, the article states:
-
Of course it doesn't list what the V1S has in terms of VRAM either way...the one that everyone is dying to know.
-
I just hope the V series prices in Singapore/Thailand doesn't shoot up . . .. The V2Je at ~USD$2600 is already quite an insane price for me . . . .
What's more, I just found out not too long ago that they jacked up the price for the V1Jp by ~SGD$200 . . . . . .
Asus V1s vs Asus V2s.
