Hi, does anyone know of a site that will let me customize a V6?
Preferably in the US or Canada.

    Thanks in advance.

Startech will customize the unit for you but you instantly void Asus' 2 year global warranty..... to which they'll give you their own local warranty to replace it. You're honestly better off from a value standpoint to buy the system stock and add the ram or swap a hard drive yourself and not void the original warranty. I wouldn't worry so much about the cpu because the difference between the bottom and top end cpus are very little in terms of practical performance but the cost and the extra strain on the heat and battery life is why the stock units are set up where they are..... There's an open slot for extra ram which is easy enough to do by yourself and if you want a different hard drive you could always use the stock one for external storage (I always suggest something like putting it in Asus' wireless hard drive kit).....

    Hope that helps.

No problem....... did I hit that on the nose for you? I mean I just think it's dumb to void the warranty if this is a matter of you just wanting more ram or maybe a bigger hard drive..... Asus' 2 year global warranty is worth about $300... and you're paying for it regardless of it gets voided or not. We'd think differently about customizing the Ensembles if we got a refund on the cost of the warranty from Asus.... but we don't.

Wasn't looking to change your mind off the V6 -- it's certainly an awesome system.

Yes, you are paying for the ASUS warranty either way, but if you plan to upgrade the RAM and hard drive on your own, you are also paying for the parts that you are going to replace. Say for example, the ensemble comes with 1g RAM (2x512) and you need 2g, well you are now going to have to buy 2 1g sticks instead of just 1. Same goes for the hard drive. I suppose you could turn around and sell the removed parts, but who wants to deal with that!

The aforementioned reseller offers the W2 with 2g RAM and 60g 7200 rpm for about $200.00 more than the ensemble. Do you think you could buy these on your own for $200?

You're right - I probably won't be able to buy those parts at under $200, but I do have some spare RAM (1 GB stick), so I'll only have to buy another stick.

As for the CPU, well Justin's right, for the stuff that I'll be doing with the notebook the stock CPU is just fine.

    Thanks for your input :)

Right, but you're not getting the original parts and the real question there would be could you get those parts for less than $200 plus the cost of Asus' 2 year global warranty which is easily $300 ---- so $500........ plus you still don't have the original parts - like the hard drive which could be used for external storage.
