    Hey guys,

For some reason, I can not get my external HD to work at USB 2.0 speed no matter what i do. I tried a fresh clean install and still nothing. Every time i plug anything in the USB port i get a message stating that drive is not working at USB 2.0 speed.

    I have a Asus V6 w/ Windows XP SP2.

    any help plz?

    thx

Its not your bios. You need to download the latest windows updates specifically service pack 2. The go to device manager and right click on the question mark then hit update driver. Let it search automatically. Problem fixed :)

I don't know... service pack 1 included USB2.0 drivers.... so they should already be there.

    Thanks,

Check the BIOS. I recall someone having similar problem and it turned out the USB2.0 was disabled in the BIOS.

SP1 include USB 2.0..... However sp1 is not available any more. You have to download SP2. I am guessing the user here has a pirated copy or pre sp1 version which means he has to downlaod sp2. I do not see an option to disable or enable usb2 in bios from asus. Pretty sure this person just does not have service pack installed. i see it all the time and take atleast a couple cals a month with the same exact issue.

That's true.. that could be it too..... but I don't think in the V6 bios you have an option like that.....

The V6 worldwide comes with a legal copy of SP2 ..... and there's no other way to get it.

Was there a setting in the bios for the usb? I never disable it so it's not something I'd even pay attention to.
