Hi there, Im stoked to say that Ive just received my new V6 by courier from Landmark Computers (Melbourne CBD) within 36 hrs of handing over my much bruised VISA card. So thanks guys for your quick and very competitive service, I recommended you to everyone. My final price including delivery to Adelaide was $2870.00
Generally Im very pleased with my buy, a couple of things though, the V6 doesnt have a subwoofer (but the speakers are pretty good) and it doesnt have a Video out port. I say this because it was in the tech details on line from LMC; might want to fix that guys.
Anyway getting back on the V6. Very happy with the overall product, beautiful to look at, 2.8 kg and just over 25mm thick. Love the new body! The keys are great with a nice feel, sound is good, the fan is quite but the DVD is a bit louder, still OK but.
The body does get warm under the right palm rest and the vent is also out the right hand side which can produce quite a warm breeze. (It been 36 degs in Adelaide the last few days) The battery last about 3.5 hours and is ample for what I want and the 1.7Ghz is very fast. The X600 does a nice job of playing my few games such as half life.
My only real qualm is about the bad vertical viewing angles of my screen. I need to lay the screen right back and look straight at it to get the full color and richness out of it. Of course this is easy enough to do but Im not sure if this is a problem with the model in general or just mine. If I stand up from my desk and view the screen at just 10 deg above vertical from direct in front it really washes out. No where near as good as the M6 screen which I love. Does anyone else find this problem? If so can we fix it?
Still this is about the only negative
Cheers all
Derek

I's sure the vertical viewing angle is a common issue with this model. It's been gnawing at me that the older and cheaper laptops offer better vertical viewing angles... that doesn't mean the older models screens are better..

Most 15" SXGA+ screens have without some sort of bright technology suffer from bad vertical viewing angles... however, they're still very usable and not *that* bad.
Congrats on your new V6V []

.. basically all 15.1" SXGA+ screens.... regular or glossy.... but it doesn't mean that they are bad.
Anyone with an M6 display can say good or bad..... but a V6 is slightly better than that.
Thanks,
Justin

Thanks, I guess the word "bad" isn't really fair with describing the screen angles, disappointing is a better description. From front-on the screen is very nice to look at with great colors and contrast even without the screen at full brightness and from the side at an angle of 40-45 degs its quite clear. Coming from a desktop Im not use to having to lay back the screen as far as this one needs (Which is at its max travel). Still Im getting quite use to it now.
My basis for my disappointment was that I took home a M6R last week which had a great screen and I was expecting the same for this one. I took the M6 back because it was sold to me as a M6SNe. All I can say is check your hardware people!!
Yesterday I compared my V6 with a friend M6 and besides the screen (Which is still very good) I think Asus has done a great job all round. The newer keyboard surround is much nicer, especially the beveled area next to the space key. Of course its also slightly lighter and smaller, but the main thing I like is that because its so flat (20mm or ¾ for our American friends) off the table, so the edge of the key board doesnt get you in the wrist like the M6 can.
So like I said, very happy. Its nice to have a machine that others notice and admire []

Thought I'd just Send some shot's of my V6V, and the bags it came with[
]
Only thing is I don't know how to attach em! Can someone give me a quick heads up?
Thanks

I don't think you can actually attach images on this forum. You can upload them somewhere and then link to them here.
There's an explanation for using the HTML image src tag in the HTML sticky at the top of this forum, but if you're not familiar with HTML it might be a bit confusing. []

Nice pictures Derek![
] I really wonder if I gonna get a V6V or a W3V. I like the V6V's high resolution and height, but it also like the widescreen (not the resolution though), the possibility of having total of 14-cell battery (8-cell standard and 6-cell optical bay) and the size of the W3V.
Why cant Asus make a makeover of the M6-series. With the best from V6V and W3V. Nice, thin, and a WSXGA 15,4 widescreen without the "open space" (think there are speakers there) under the screen of M6.
Maybe such a thing will come eventually. But I want a lappy soon though..[]
But to something totally different:
I see you have the same JVC stereo system as I[]
How do you set the radiostations to presets??
I really cant figure that out (Can't find the manual) []

TV-freak, Cheers. I can say that after a week and a bit of using my V6 I'm still very happy. It does everything that I want anywhere I want to do it, LOVE THE WIRELESS!! I've found that I can use mine all over uni and in the CBD thanks to Internode wireless. (There are benefits to having home grown companies doing good [
]) I can honestly say that Im now totally use to the screen and now prefer it to the flat screens at uni which look a bit blurry to me now.
The bag I've found to be adequate for uni as well. I can fit in a few slim folders, lunch, mouse and the charger quite well. The only thing I miss is a spot for my water bottle (Its hot in Adelaide). But go Asus for giving me a practical bag [^]
As for your stereo, do you have your remote? If so all you need to do is pan up or down using the tune up/down keys on your stereo and when you've located the channel you want, just press and hold a number key on the top part of your remote for a couple of seconds. When the display flashes a few times and youre done.
Hope that helps []

Well first minor problem, I can't play DVD's on my V6V! I get the following message
"Windows Media Player is currently unable to play DVD video. Try decreasing the number of colors displayed on your monitor or decreasing the screen resolution. For additional solutions, click More Information to access the DVD Troubleshooter."
Does anyone know how to fix this? I've tried the lowest screen settings with no result [!] And the trouble shooter is not much help.

I loaded the AsusDvd CD provided with my new Z71V and select the option Asus Dvd when you put in the DVD in the drive.Works wonderfully.

Try using a different media player, ASUS usually gives you a copy of powerdvd or similar which will do a much better job of playing DVDs, if not there are free players on the web you can get. I've never heard or seen that error before, I can play dvds fine at WSXGA as well, so I doubt that the issue is really one of resolution... Thus I would have to say its mediaplayers fault...not uncommon, also mp won't be able to play DVDs without a dvd codec installed, this will happen by default if you install powerdvd etc, but you can also get free-ware codecs from the web.
Glad ya like the V6V, its very sexy.
