Could anyone post nice ausus V6J pics?

Also, is this a great computer? What is the native resolution if I take a glossy screen? Is the screen nice?

    Thanx

The native resolution for the 15" LCD is SXGA+ or 1440x1050. It is a glossy screen afaik. it seems to be one of asus better/best screens.

pics of the asus V6J can be found here

Please do a little research on your own.. everything you want to know can be found as easily as looking at our V6j page if need be.... if you haven't even gotten that far, I suggest you look into it... or look at Asus' page....

Oh they're not? Those are Asus' professional shots...... I don't know what you're looking for, but apparently amatuer shots is what you want....

amateur shots often give viewers a better perspective of the laptop. it's goods and bads, actual size, etc.

"professional shots" only look good, they tell little about the physical laptop.

I disagree.... neither shot is going to show you the quality of the screen..... so there's a negative for both. On the professional shots we cover the screen with a background to give it some color and on amatuer shots I've yet to see anyone use proper techniques to shoot the screen..... The other things that's lost with cameras snappers in automatic mode are details, like the grain of the brushing in the aluminum palmrest on the V6. The only thing and I do mean the only thing that amatuer shots are good for are comparison shots between something of a given size...... But when "nice pictures" are asked for, there really is nothing better than the professional shots as there are a dozen or more to look at.

I have a question for Justin. Is there any reason why you watermark "ProPortable" on official ASUS notebook professional photos? I haven't seen many dealers doing that sort of thing... are you claiming that they are your own shots?

If you want a great regular ratio 15" system... the Asus V6J is as good as it gets.

    Hi!

The native resolution of the V6J asus is 1400 x 1050. Does it means that if I put the screen in 1024 x 768 the quality will be bad?

    Thanx

    My screen will be glossy.

Yes, it means that if you put the screen in 1024x768 the quality will be bad as the pixels will be scaled and a "fuzzy" look will result. So basically the only option is to use the native resolution. I am talking about destkop / editing / programming, not gaming, as there the difference is not noticeable.

Indeed SXGA+ is a hellish resolution if you don't have perfect eyes (and I don't), and if you have perfect eyes it won't take long to ruin them if you use the notebook on a daily basis :).

What I did was change the DPI from default to 106 (that corresponds to an increase of 10% in all font sizes), plus other tweaks such as font sizes in applications, default zoom at 110% for the browser etc.

Any high resolution monitor is going to have that "problem" if you're scaling it down in resolution.

The big question is, what are you planning on using the laptop for?

I would saying 9 times out of 10, the V6j is one of the best 15" options out there. The only "1" being if you're a serious gamer, you may want a little more power in the gfx department...otherwise though you'll be golden.

We have ways of getting them that no one else really does and we often have these photos month in advance.... with an agreement with Asus we have the right to watermark them. The originals that I get are 8mp in size and usually .raw images..... I work them up and resize them for our site. People used to steal our images (the time to work them up and resize them for the web takes a considerable amount of time and I don't blame them, but if they can't get them officially, then they shouldn't have them). With that said, I still hear about companies using our shots with our watermark on them...... oh well. But basically we can watermark anything we get from Asus as long as we're selling them. Asus also reworks some of the originals for the average dealer, but there are still some shots and sizes that they just don't give to everyone. It's not a big deal, but if you put a lot of work into them, you wouldn't want someone to just grab them off of you either.

SXGA+ is a great resolution for a 15" screen. If the text is too small, you can increase the font size...
going down to XGA would be waste...

It really is a great res for what the system offers... it's a gaming and graphics delight....... font size can ALWAYS been increased whether through windows or through a few programs out there on the web.

Agreed. Once you increase the font/icon sizes, everything's fine. And you get a lot of LCD real estate, enabling you to do things like:

use two rows for the taskbar & system tray => double number of readable task buttons until they start to be resized and you "lose" text at the end; double # of icons in the systray; day of week displayed in systray without loss of horizontal space.

stack a lot of icons in quick launch bars along some side of the desktop (in my case, left)

use toolbars in applications to their best

I'd say also have multiple apps open, but when editing / programming I still prefer to use maximized windows. Multiple apps on screen helps however when dragging files to various applications such as Nero burner.

    etc.

The only (minor) problem is that some apps really hardcode the font size and even DPI changes do not affect them, and some webpages use non-scalable fonts or images for navigation. But this is minor, and overall I am OK with SXGA+ resolution.

Personally I like the thinness of the V6j... that's only even possible due to the 9.5mm drive instead of the 12.7mm....... it's a bit slower, but more expensive.... Um.... you've got extra hieght of about 1.5", but the same width. Those are really how they differ.... Both systems are great in their own way and you can't have both.... so it really comes down to personal preference and I usually say to people that they should consider what screen they want because that's what you're dealing with everyday.

More screen real estate and a higher resolution. ZBD warranty. Thinner. Brushed aluminum palm rest vs. painted finish on the W3j.

Owner of the V6J, if you put your computer in 1024 x 768, is the quality still good?

^ It's that time in the show where I need to ask: Why do you want to do this? If you're worried about small fonts...etc then there's setting that can be adjusted without compromising the screen resolution.

If you're dead set on adjusting the resolution to 1024x768, I would find another Asus w/ that as a native resolution.

Honestly, if you really need 1024x768, don't get the V6J.

There are plenty of good notebooks out there with that native resolution and you won't have to worry about it looking bad.
