Hey Guys,
I just got my S400! It's intended for nothing serious, I have my monstrious Clevo for that. However, I did get the notion that the HD 4000 that comes with this i5-3317U would be able to handle games such as Dota2 on low settings.
What would you consider "handle"? Also, is there like a 3DMark or something like that I could/should install to make sure everything is fine? Dota2 isn't playable, WoW hardly, at 20 fps. Thanks!

Hey,
so I'm downloading 3dMark06 now.
I've noticed that my clocks sit at 350MHz when in WoW... shouldnt Turbo Boost up that?
My Temps are 55C, idle and in-game, which is REALLY odd... then again I've only experienced big GPUs up until now. Is this normal? Isnt it hot for an on board card/ the entire laptop in general? And it not upping during 3d games? -
Sigh,
3dMark06: 2166
That's less than HALF of other comparable notebooks.
Something MUST be wrong with Turbo boost... -
ok it works on battery, so its obviously my non stock power supply. Which is strange... it supplies up to 230W, and i set it to 19V
-
Hey I just ordered one as well, didnt get it yet...I read something about ASUS software underclocking things on the S400CA to save battery power at cost of performance.
I intend to run on AC a lot, can you remove the battery easily?
Did you check out the software it came installed with? Maybe uninstalling or shutting it off will boost you up. Let me know I am looking forward to getting the most out of this machine! -
Hey,
something is definitely buggy with my turbo boost. It runs fine on battery, its all buggy when on AC. Not sure yet on what it depends, ive had it up and running before though. Somethingwith 100% charge, or restarting with the laptop on AC. -
ASUS makes solid stuff, I am sure it's just as matter of settings/tweaking....
Mine is on its way, I will check it out and tweak it out a little and check the power settings etc..then we can run some benchmarks and compare. I got the i5-3317U 4GB model. What setting did you run 3dmark06 on? All default settings? I can post what I find if u like.
If anyone else got this sweet Vivobook and wants to post up benchmarks, and anything you found to help optimize, please do!!!

Note: they got a 4148 on 3dmark06 -
Hey, when it has turbo boost on I get somewhere in the high 4200s on 3dmark06. Something is still annoyingly buggy with the turbo boost...
do you know how to get into the BIOS by any chance? -
lovelaptops MY FRIENDS CALL ME JEFF!
Not to state the obvious, but wouldn't it be worthwhile to exchange it for a new one?

F2 during POST.

Have you checked the TurboBoost setting in BIOS? Both with the notebook running on AC adapter, and without adapter? If you see something in question there, you could try resetting the BIOS to optimal defaults, or removing the system battery to reset it (but if it's under return policy/warranty, I would suggest sending it in - especially if you're not comfortable with opening the laptop up to get to the battery and voiding the warranty altogether).

Appreciate the comments on Asus Vivobook S400. I got mine but it's still in the box.

OP: Have you had any luck? -
Let's resuscitate this thread
.
There's no option in the BIOS- heck, the only way I can get into the BIOS is by restarting the computer through Windows 8's own "advanced restart" feature.
UEFI Firmware, or whatever it's called.
I have a handle on the situation... Turbo Boost works on battery, but coming from battery to AC, it never works. I have to restart the computer, and then generally it works.
I.e. it works fine on AC, I unplug it, it works fine, I plug it back in, no turbo boost. Now I can either turn it off and on again, or I leave it unplugged. lol.

does anyone have the x202e 11 inch counterpart? I only see discussion threads about the s400
i have been wanting to know if the x202e is as customize friendly as the s400 (easy to change HDD and extra RAM slot)

How fast are your sleep/resume and hibernate/resume times? Mine are pretty slow and comparable to a 2 year old laptop with no SSD cache.
I just timed it and it takes:
17 seconds to hibernate and 14 seconds to resume (get to the login screen)
10 seconds to sleep and 5-6 seconds to resume from sleep
Is this normal? I bought mine from Microsoft so it didn't have a lot of the Asus crapware installed, this is with Asus Instant On installed. It was even slower before I installed it. -
up upeddy. Maybe reinstalling the BIOS could work. Where would I get it from? Also, I need to boot from a bootable usb stick and flash it, right?thanks
