I have an Asus Vivobook, and while using it from the battery, it randomly shut down, as if I was had held the power button down for a long time.

I was simply using it normally, when the screen went black, and I heard a short click, and then the power light went off.

Check the temperature as well as the battery icon.
    Is it overheating?
Was the computer using battery instead of AC?

The temperature was well into the normal range. The HDD usually idles at around ~42 deg. Celsius. It can play most games without a sweat.

I was using it on battery though.

A defective battery can do this because if the actual capacity is lower than what is being reported by the battery thus shutting off automatically without any warning.

You can try using BatteryCare to acquire more info on the battery; it may tell you if it is defective or has excessive wear.
