I have a W3J with XP installed. For some reason the volume has always seemed too low. When I go into Ubunutu I can increase the volume with the alsa program and the volume is WAY louder.

How can I get louder settings in windows? My regular volume settings are all maxed and just too low

I believe there are bios setting for your volume that may help a little. If you maxed all the volume setting in Windows there wont be too much more you can do.

I believe alsa uses a software amplifier to boost volume.
Just download some equalizer software for Windows.
    That should work.
When I am watching movies I use VLC's built-in equalizer to boost the sound over the standard Windows settings and that works pretty well.

When you start VLC click on "settings" and then "preferences".
In "preferences" click on "audio" there you'll see "default audio volume".
500 is the windows max setting and you can boost it anywhere form 500 to 1024.
Just put it on 1024 and restart your movie and you're all set.

    Hope that helps!
