I used to own an Asus W1v ~5 years ago, and it was a really nice laptop at that time.

Does anyone know if it's possible to find a W series model with upgraded specs, or have Asus discontinued them completely?

I'm quite aware of the current models, but none of them match the design of the W1 and W2.. The only notebook that springs to mind is a macbook, and that's not really what I want :)

I'm not sure what you're looking for - is it brushed aluminum? There are a few models that have that, like the B series.

I assumed that you were looking for a current 'Multimedia' model.. since that's what the W series was all about. :) Good luck.

    Thanks ;p

Guess I should've been more specific, eh? ;)
It might be nostalgia, but it was a nice laptop, with every single feature you'd need, and a design to boot.
What I'm really looking for is the above, plus good performance(games too) combined in one package.

It's difficult finding semi-slim notebooks, with good graphics and design, at least for me :p

Have you seen the U36 and upcoming U46? They are slim and brushed aluminum with discrete graphics.

Older models including the UL50 and UL80 also might fit the profile but with lesser graphics. I'm not positive their palmrests are aluminum though.

There's also the new K43 and K53 which are brushed aluminum. As my avatar right now I have a green K53 but unfortunately I have no idea when and where it is going to be sold. :p

The u46 is gorgeous, though I would've liked better graphics, oh well :D

Really thinking about getting a slim notebook and an eGPU(former DIY ViDock).. Seems like like the best solution now, no?

Well it probably won't be an ASUS then. Most models don't come with expresscard slots these days. :(

I know the B series does and some of the N series still have them. Beyond that I don't know offhand.

Well a Nvidia GT540m is no slouch, same card as the GT550, just under clocked

The U46 looks like a very nice laptop and light too.
