There won't be a W1 refresh as such. According to Justin from Proportable, Asus decided that the W1v would just detract from W2v sales, and since the price difference between the W2v and W1v would be minimal, most would opt for the W2v anyway,

The new Z70va is Asus's new 15.4inch widescreen with an x700, so the W1v would also be competing with that model.

There is still a small chance (10% chance apparently) that Asus will bring a W1 barebone to America. Hopefully, for people like myself who don't want a 17 inch machine, they will bring in the W1 barebone.

    Hope that helps,
    Steve

Good boy.... j/k ... Steve couldn't have copied and pasted that any better than he wrote it........... Every day I think an FAQ page would eliminate half the threads on this forum... I'm going ot have to look into it.

    dissapointing......

I have always bought my notebooks in the US, even though I live in Australia.....The problem with that is the ensemble notebooks hav the 'ASUS GLOBAL WARRANTY' while the built on asus models only have dealer models.

I like the W2v...(a lot) it is just to big with the 17" screen :(

Let me tell you this...... a majority of the pre-order customers we had for the W2 are people who already own one or two W1n's and or 17" powerbooks....... I talked to roughly 8-9 of those people today and their comments parrallel what I feel...

    1. they said the screen seems huge, but the footprint and weight doesn't seem that much more than the W1

    2. the powerbook owners felt it wasn't much heavier than their 17" powerbook and all loved the fit and finish of the build..... their amazement of the power and features inside the computer obviously blew them away.... but the powerbooks are still selling on year and half old components at best.

I have to tell..... I haven't put it on a scale yet, but I think the 7 1/2 pounds I told everyone it weighed may very well be a little high... it's either that or it just balances out so well that you can't feel it.

    Justin,

Do you see a new W2PB model that would have an NVidia Card instead of the ATI 1700? If so would it also have the GDDR3 that the pB came with?

Nope... if it was a Nvidia it should be out by now... I believe it will carry a ATI HD 2600XT with GDDR 4.
