First I must say this notebook is really nice. The thing that bothers me is it is not really 1.2 inches except maybe the front. I think the advertising is very deceptive. I am enjoying it very much. The trackpad is very nice. It responds very precise to most imputs. I think companies should be required to list the dimensions of there devices from the largest point of measurement.

I remember having this same converstation a year or so back when the orginal M6 was released...but to be fair to ASUS, pretty much all manf. state the lowest number they can get....which is usually the front.
Not the best or fairest but I guess its abit like the listed Hdd size not really matching the available space.

I don't disagree Mark - or at least list BOTH measurements.

Are you measuring the feet along with it?

Usually Manufacturers will use the lowest real number possible, for example the front of the laptop and measure it without the feet.

It is up to the people to measure it in real life, and give real values, which is putting the laptop on a flat surface or table and measure it at the front and back including the feet.

something like this 1.1"~1.4" and that's how it is displayed after measuring.

I know for a fact that Samsung measures their laptops without the feets and it annoys people when they get it, and see that a laptop which costs so much is now 1.4" thick in the back.

Dimensions is something i definately take alot of extra time watching and researching before purchasing because i know manufaturers can give half-truths there...and ofcourse batterylife LOL. (Samsung X50 = 12 hours! LOL!!!)

    Thanks,

I don't think its deceptive, on the ASUS website, they actually give a range, meaning from the front which is 1.2 to the back which is 1. something else, don't remember, but they do give you a range so you don't think the ENTIRE laptop is 1.2 in height.

Well in the OP's post he says the front might be as thin as 1.2", so the rest is thicker.

The Z70Va/M6Va on the Asus Global site has very 'optimistic' thickness specs, 22-34mm (0.9-1.34"). The front spec is deceiving, you'd think it is a sloping design but it's really the overhang of the battery that's not at the very front. On a flat surface the real thickness would be 1.3-1.6" (even more if you counted the speaker hump), and the front of the palmrest is an inch up from the desk.

I'd like it best if manufacturers reported thickness with and without feet, and the thickness with the lid closed and open (palmrest height). Take the Z60m, on paper it's thicker than the Z70Va but the palmrest is really about the same height if not actually a bit thinner, and the extra thickness is for a stronger lid.

are people really gonna argue over .1 inches i mean seriously, the w2j is an increadible laptop as it is, a little thicker isnt really gonna make that much of difference, at least i dont think!
