I got an Australian variant of the W2P recently and, as my camera is broken at the moment, a review will have to follow in a few weeks. In the meantime, do any potential buyers have any questions?

The important specifications of the Australian version are:

    T7200
    2 GB 667 MHz RAM
    X1700
    WUXGA+ (1920x1200)
    120 GB SATA HDD
    8x SuperMulti DVD-RAM
    Hybrid DVB-T tuner
Realtek ALC882 with S/PDIF (supposed to be capable of bit-perfect 44.1 kHz, but I can't get it working)
    HDMI

My general thoughts on the laptop:

Very solid multimedia laptop: it could be a perfect digital transport for DVDs, digital TV or audio. Unfortunately the promised HD-DVD drive did not eventuate, but it is at least capable of displaying 1080p at full resolution on account of the WUXGA+ screen. It looks quite sophisticated, with dark grey aluminium replacing plastic for the lid and upper chassis. The large blue LED which lights the power button in my opinion is quite garish against the otherwise refined design. Although a 17", at 3.4 kg and 27-34 mm thick, it is thinner than many 15" laptops, and not a great deal heavier. It tends to run hot, and the CPU idles (even at 0.950v and 1 GHz) at 51-55 c, whereas a Dell 1505 that I had been using would idle at 40-45 c. It is not noisy, though. The X1700 is adequate for light gaming, but certainly not at the native resolution.

Woo, NBR has not got a review of the W2 series (any of them) from Asus. If you can, please post a comprehensive review if you have time. If you need to know how to write a review, this site has the layout http://www.notebookreview.com/writeReview/

Merry Xmas, and a happy new year (made all the better hopefully by your review ;) !)
