I know it's not uncommon for laptops to run hot, but my W2V is super hot when doing almost anything. I'm looking to buy one of those fan cooling units, besides the cheap one that that Acer? makes and sells at Staples, does anyone have any other thoughts as to different models?

What do they call these, not docking stations but notebook expanders?

    Thanks in advance.

Did it just start doing it? Have you loaded anything recently?

How long you use this W2V?? Please check and make sure no any dust inside the cpu cooling fan, otherwise, use a air compressor to blow out the dust and clean it up, or check the cpu usage whether it is in a high rate.

My W2v doesnt run hot at all. Unless its been sitting on a bed for a while blocking vents.

Be careful there SRD - that sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Mickelow - open up Task Manager and see if there are any programs running...maybe you're tied up w/ spyware and ****...really can't believe that would make the comp run that hot though.

When is the last time you've checked the vents for debris?

Just like the guys said above, check your vents for dust, hair, etc.

TheUndertow, it's perfectly fine to use your notebook on a bed or something like that as long as your notebook is in battery saving mode and everything is turned down.

With everything turned down I can use my notebook on my bed for a long period of time without overheating.

Of course if you use your notebook on your bed at full performance mode it WILL overheat, but as long as you have things turned down for normal web browsing or DVD viewing you are fine. Especially with notebooks that have integrated graphics.

Micklelow since your notebook is an Ensemble model, call your reseller, where you bought it from, before opening it up or doing anything to it. You can check your vents without any problems with your warranty though.

    Cheers and keep us updated,
    Mike

More specifically I was reacting to the vents being blocked...I use my Dell work laptop in bed and while it does get toasty (endangering my future generation) you're right, it doesn't overheat.
