I didn't think they'd create that type of reaction... but all the little goodies that come with the units certainly make it worth that much more.

I actually got a different bag. One from Asus and very stylish. I got a lot of comments about it from people who don't want anything other than design stuff and they really like it.

Lucky, can you post more info on your bag? Is there original manufacturer / model no on it or smth? I agree, the bag here is not particularly captivating.

It's a Targus carrying case that is classy and light...... and it's free.. it's actually very nice and compliments the W2 very well.... it's worth at least $60 if you compare it to what else Targus has on their site for 17" notebooks.

Well it says its from Asus. It says "Asus Design". I'm not proficient in English enough to give a good description. I don't have a digital camera either. It seems like it's made especially for the W2V as it fits the W2V exactly. My Sony Vaio didn't fit in it.

It's this one below..... this is what's coming with the 2nd shipment of correctly packaged W2v's....... This is made similarly to the W3 / V6v cases and Lucky is exactly right.. it's made for the W2v exactly..... it's less bulky than the other case we found and I can't really say one's better than the other. Targus has been Asus' OEM bag maker for a couple years now and really it's just a different design. Basically the first bag that we shipped out is basically a very nice Targus designed bag with the "Asus" logo on the top and the "Asus Notebook" embossed on the vinyl bottom. Now the case that comes with the Media Center models is the case that Asus designed and had Targus build...... really the same quality, but just something a step above as far as looks of a simply nylon bag go... and only people with a W2 will ever have one.

I agree, it is a very beautiful and functional bag. I had a Waterfield for my previous notebook that was about the same quality.

For anyone still unsure about this...... there is still a decent quantity of the 2nd shipment left in stock. I will say that once more people on this forum start posting about theirs tonight and tomorrow..... that won't be the case for long. There's not a "shortage" of them, but Asus' next shipment is about two weeks out and supply all depends on who finds out about this unit, when. All the forum members know, of course... but what I hate to see are the hold outs who want one and have wanted one for 6 months, but put it off till the last minute and then some guy who just discovered Asus and this w2 this morning ends up with the last one. That's what happened with the W3, but then again a lot more of those were imported in their first two shipments.

I got the specially designed bag also and I was suprised how good it is.

When you look at the bundle Asus includes with their machines the price suddenly looks much more competitive. I remember when I was researching my W2 I did an online quote with Dell for a 9300 and the price wasn't very different. By the time you add the cost of a bag, some accessories, the TV tuner etc. the Asus is really good value in my opinion. That's without factoring in that virtually every Dell I've seen over 2 years old is breaking around the hinges.

On the sound issue I've found out some more. If I play music using I-Tunes all five speakers work. So they all seem to be functioning but just aren't being recognised correctly. I guess that ties in with the whole driver issue conclusion. Hopefully Asus will sort something out soon anyway.

As said above... the video decoder is located on the asusdvd software..... that is why dvds won't play but also why you can't see tv on your media center.... but also you probably need to install the tv tuner driver as well......

Media Center takes some time to set up also... but it's awesome once it's up.
