Hi all, I was one of the first groups of people to buy the W2v. Initially I was happy but soon became disappointed with the many issues detailed below.
If you don't want to read, skip to the last 2 paragraphs. The main point of my post though is I'm looking for a DC power jack for my W2v mb so I can keep using my computer. I've done a few somewhat brief searches but they all look like the same list and no DC jack for the W2v.
When I first saw the W2v it was everything I wanted in a laptop, looks, performance and design and hesitantly pulled the trigger on it due to the high price.
Within the first week or so my laptop would start up with the entire screen in glitchy digital blocks. I sent it back to Star Tech where I bought it from only to have the tech berate me in an email about the undervolting apps I installed (he told me "overclocking" would void warranty, whatever, I just wanted the loud fan off) and the issue was NOT solved. I gave up, shipping costs and time were too much, it only happened every so often and just required a restart.
Then the major sound issue came up that everyone knows about, the huge IR device and remote instead of the advertised PCMIA remote and built in IR and the AV in connectivity which required another unwieldy attachment.
Next comes the design, everyone raved about how pretty it was but I was over it within the first 2 weeks. Design is horrible, the mouse buttons aren't tactile, the touchpad sticky and in the way/activates when you type causing the cursor to shift, the laptop edges uncomfortable for typing/long usage, dim screen, loud and fairly useless slot load, and cheap magnetic cover for the power/ethernet ports. Oh and the fan that never shuts off.
All those aside I didn't mind, the real kicker was the graphics issue. I use a 3D modeling program called SolidWorks and after some time of usage the screen will just shut off. Mind you everything still works, the screen just decided to go on vacation so good thing I memorized the protocol to save and softreset. I later found out the program has only yellow lighted compatibility w/ the gpu. Not really Asus' fault but it could be related to the graphics issue I initially had.
Now the real kicker is the DC/power jack. At first it would make this annoying whine every now and then and I'd have to position it just right to shut it up. Now it's progressed into full fledged annoyance by not transmitting power. The laptop still thinks it's plugged in but if it's not positioned just so, the battery will run down and suddenly hibernate when it hits 5%.
I've searched online and there doesn't seem to be one place that sells the jack and I can't find any resources for cross compatibility so I'm here asking for help and hopefully an answer.
Granted it's been 4 years but I'm honestly not sure if I'll buy Asus again. I mean the thing works but there's also so much wrong that I don't know if I can live with it. Maybe a tried and true model only.

Maybe you just need to re-solder the jack?

Yea, I'll try that but that's hopeful. It seems to be the case but could also mean a dying jack.
I'll report back when I get a chance to crack it open. I have to wrestle with it for 5 mins until it will charge and I can finish my work.
