You're not going to get the TV to work because the TV tuner that comes with the Vc model is not certified by Microsoft and will not work with MCE.

.... I really wish you had come to this forum before you made your purchase because I'd mentioned this many many times... The digital tuner thats on the Vc model is made to work with Asus' Mobile Theater and the model needed for MCE is an analog tuner........... That model only really came to the US, but there is a difference between the two - and the remote you got with your unit (both full size and pc slot size) don't work with MCE either......... nor does the built-in IR....

Let me know if you need anything else.

O forgot something is there a way to maybe change the hardware put in a diff tuner or something ?? also been looking if it might be possible to change the x700 to a higher version but couldnt find anything about it on the forums. Cause i am not all to impressed with it.

But then we get back to the might aswell change the laptop for a better 1 item :)

Yeah, well you could return it and get one from the US..... or you could try to talk to the US office and get the other tuner... but don't return the laptop and get something else because everything else honestly is going to be crap next to it.... you can probably already see that.

You honestly must be a complusive buyer, because you don't seem to have looked hard on the forums. The x700 is a very, very good card.... there's nothing NOT to be impressed with... but the next model, the W2j will have a 256mb x1600 in it... That's been known for months, so if you needed something more powerful, that should have caught your eye.

If you are not impressed by the card why did you get this pc? also what games are you trying to run at what resolutions. Sagar has a nice 17in laptop with a nvidia 7800 in it around the same price as the w2v. But i really dont see what you can direct compare the w2v to. Its honestly in a class of its own. You just dont seem to know what you bought or why you bought it just seems odd.

I bought the laptop for the tv dvd option and office stuff i travel alot so it looked like a good laptop to have evrywhere atleast i could watch some tv or movies any time i wanted. I played EQ2 and RF-Online and my temp shoots up and it did a few hard reboot the games run smooth i cant run most the games at full settings tho. At the online store ( The Netherlands ) this w2vc was 1 of the only 17" wide laptops that had some good specs with it.

i will try and get the tuner from the US Office shouldnt be 2hard i think atleast that will be really nice then. Cant use the remote still then but maybe i can find a way around that aswell.

    Thanks for the info again

you can buy the MS MCE remote. i play quake 4 at high rez not 1600 by 1200 one below that at high settings. in order to play them at ultra you need a card with 512 megs ram which most nvidia 7800 cant even run. i have never had my w2v freeze or overheat from playing games. are you laying it on a bed or something? blocking the vents maybe. also download centrino hardware control and undervolt the CPU it will drop the temp about 10 degrees when at full load for a while.

OK Justin, I'm a little confused. But my only real question if I by it from you, off your site what tuner, remote, etc will come with it? Will it work with MCE?

Ok, well I didn't confuse you and don't let some guy from Europe confuse you either..... if you want to know what we sell, it's on our site.... very plain and simple and easy to follow and I can give you my word that what's on there is exactly how the unit comes.

... since it says it comes with MCE, it does... It's the W2Vb model which is the only model that has been sold in North America.

Well i just had it again this is what happend.

I am playing Everquest II at 1400 x 1050 normal settings nothing high. My laptop is on my desk. After about 40 min of game time my temp goes up to 69 celcius dont know how much that is in F sorry. The game went choppy for like 5 sec and did a hard reboot again.

Note that my desk is totally empty nothing is even close to blocking any vents.

i just find it wierd it does that sometimes.

BTW whats the diff between the us tuner and the 1 from europe ?

Gonna download that centrino thing now c what that does.

    Thanks

69C isnt even that high for it under load. IT should not be freezing. Mine doesnt at all and thats after playing quake 4 at high settings on a bed with the vents blocked for an hour. the pentium m can handle like 90C just fine so to be freezing the GPU at 69C is very odd.

The european tuner is digital and analog over the air digital. the US is just analog.

I used to have a couple back when we did the swap over from the first shipment that initially came in as "Vc" models, but I no longer have them.... no one else is going to be able to provide you with one either... I found out you should call your local Asus and ask them to order one because the US office won't send anything out of the country.

    @Misq2K

Plus tell me what a burning program is going to do with the tv tuner on the W2? Also, which tuner are you talking about... the digital hybrid on the W2vc (model that comes with xp pro and asus mobile theater) or the analog on the W2vb (model that comes with windows MCE)?

Actually... I have Nero 7 and never thought to look through it since I just use it for burning... but it also has a TV solution embedded as well. Nero has certainly come into the mainstream from their humble beginings.... I remember the first version which was touted as a burner for those who hated Roxio.... and the only way to get it was through newsgroups...

So all that proves is that Nero will see the TV tuner... which is not a big deal. The big deal is the Windows MCE will not recognize anything other than the analog tuner Asus is shipping with it....... and without it, you can't see or record anything in MCE......... which is the main reason to use MCE.

.... but all tuners should be able to work with most tv software out there.... it's just a matter of the functionality you want.
