Just finished watching the first video, looking great! But is heat a issue with the W3J? l would think that x1600 + 14" case = heat trap.

Not at all it gets warm just like the rest. Obviously a few degrees warmer on the outside becuase of the tight fit but inside its the same as all the others. Heat issue is a highly inacurate description. Alot of people throw it around too loosely.

Can vlc shrink the mb size without reducing quality or image size. Thinking about doing this for all asus models with a hdtv camera. The files will be huge obviously but I would like to shrink em down just like you did without reducing quality

Yes, I just choose to use divx3 because most people should have that installed already. h264 codec is a much better codec, but not everyone can play it

Awsome movies, almost felt like i was there playing with it :D

Its gonna be kool to have a library of High Definition Videos of all ASUS models for us to download and watch.

Well with the first host i downloaded everything at my Max Download speed of 680kb/s. So im sure your server should be able to do the same. ( haven't tested)

The viewing angles were not as bad as i thought.

    Thanks,

Well thats the problem with low quality video. You cant really convey what you are really looking at. The wide view angles are just fine. The broblem is vertical from below. Go below a 70 degree angle and the verticals suck but not the same with going above 110. (90 deg is not the sweet spot by the way the optimum is somewhere between 80-90 or 90-100 same as it was for the z63a and w3v. I got a hdtv sony coming in soon. I ll make sure to include a library of all the screens and laptops. This was just a trial. I actually filmed it with a 600$ lumix digicam not a real recorder. Just have to figure out how to convert them without loosing quality as the movies will be well over 1gb in size on a hdtv camcorder. I use a dedicated server (for me only :) )for image hosting thats why you get downloads above 600kb/s but it wont be the same if i have to host 1gb files for download.

actually the camera amplifies the reflective property of the screen. It really does not look like that in person. Also keep in mind we have almost 60 feet of 12 foot high windows on both sides of the store. Filmed at 5pm eastern with store lighting on as well with the sun looking at the camera directly. . Doesnt bother me at all but some people are more picky and some screens are more reflective i guess

Thanks for taking the time to film and post those. A sticky containing high quality clips and pics of all the models would be an amazing asset to this forum!!!

Since It's late, I just double clicked the links instead of downloading them...sorry, but they played almost instantly through Windows Media player without any lag or issues. Thanks again for posting them, I can't wait to go and play with one in person. :)

Wow, I've never seen 3D Mark 05 look that good. On my PC (2.6C w FX5700U), it stutters along at 1-3 FPS. I'm hoping the x1400 produces something something at least as good as what's on the video.

@ ramian : if you're talking about image quality than yes it will be the same, if you mean frame rate you're wrong

Sorry about being a bit OT...
I know 3D Mark scores on the x1600 are twice as high as that on the x1400, would that translate to frame rates as well? Would I get only half the frame rate on the x1400 that would be possible on the x1600?

I wouldn't even be asking this if the Z96J were available where I live, but since it isn't, there aren't that many laptops with SXGA/WSXGA+ screen and a x1600, I'm having to resort to getting a SXGA notebook with a x1400 (a 15" T60 incidently).

Lol well the video is real time and the frame rate on the first clip as almost 30 fps at times. 30fps or above is perfect for human sight as far as i care. If i were to run that on a w3v or any last years model with an x700 it would be twice as slow in otherwords you would see some stuttering. The fx5700 scores a whopping 1500 points on 3dmark05 as i recall. Its pretty old but not that bad.

I'd be more than satisfied with 30fps. But 1-3fps on my FX5700U is entirely unacceptable. And, it only got a 727.
    http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=2036304
I'm hoping that with a score of around 2200 in 3DMark05, the x1400 will get at least 30fps.

From the video it seems the viewing angles is really good. I don't think the viewing angle on my A8Jm is as good. Are the screens different?

The viewing angles ARE pretty good on the w3j and it's definitely brighter than my w2v. It's definitely not as reflective as you may think from videos or camera shots. I actually leave the screen film (from packaging) on just because I like the 'extra' reflectiveness. It also prevents fingerprints =D. Just yesterday my future 4 year old nephew-in-law looked at my w3j and touched the screen and keyboard. Thankfully I have the film on =). He also said " wow nice computer!" Makes me wonder who teaches him such vocabulary. =D On a side note, I don't understand why my battery level (calibrated) fluctuates so much whether I am gaming or not. One day I'll have around 3 hours and 20 minutes while another day it'll be 2 hours and 29 minutes. I decided to give up on Power4 Gear. The notebook doesn't get hot under normal use. CPU temp around 50 C, which is surprising. The w2v under normal use is around 48 C and that gets very hot underneath. The noise from the fan is also pretty loud on the w2v. This is opposite on the w3j. It's reporting higher CPU temp, but I suppose the casing is designed in a way so the bottom doesn't feel as hot as on the w2v. It's also quiet as a mouse. Maybe it has to do with that huge heat sink/heat fins on the right vent. Just a couple good things about this portable laptop, which I believe I definitely would recommend to prospective owners.

Awesome videos Eddie! The first one's link is broken but copy/paste the URL seems to work.

I think I still don't like how the screen doesn't take up the whole panel! Maybe I'll just buy one and fogetta bout it.

Looks like a nice camera, but I'd stay away from Sony cameras or camcorders and get something else if you're going to spend that much money.

    :)

    How about one of these.

We have a few of those models in our store, sonaggi computers and they are fantastic. They're selling like hotcakes. :)
