You're just asking for an overheat running it on a carpeted floor! :)
Keep up the good work and let us know when you get some benches. How's the heat in the palmrest?

Thanks for the pics. I'm salivating. Are you planning on putting a protective cover or cloth over the keyboard to keep the screen from getting scratched, or do you think that will even be a problem (not sure with the magnetic closure for the lid).

    Thanks. That's reassuring.

The palmrest being cool is also reassuring. Do you have all the settings on BF2 cranked up?

    hi thekingdavids,

how much noise does the machine make ? ( jet engine ? quiet as a mouse ? )

how often do the fans come on ? how quiet is it when no ones around and everything is silent?

how hot does the machine get ? can it be used on your lap comfortably ? are there any silly fan vents on the base of the machine ?

any pictures of multiple apps open please ? i would like to get an idea of how good the screen resolution is on this laptop. any images showing many windows open or side-by-side apps open would be great.

these are my main concerns in regards to this laptop. i just want a super fast laptop that is cool and quiet.

was the price you got the best in the UK? any other good reputable e-tailers around?

    thanks for any input!

Can you also test to see how long battery life runs under these conditions?

    - playing a game constantly
    - when surfing the web at max brightness
    - surfing the web at minimal brightness
    - watching a movie

Your pics look great, I'm really looking forward into purchasing one of these

The Screen is brilliant, it is sharp and very clear. I have seen other laptops with glossy screens and find that there are lots of reflections but on the W3J they are scarce. Indoor the screen is just fine but I have not tested it outdoor yet.

The palm rest is a very dark grey.

There is no virtual left right click on the pad just the the left click when tapped.

I have to say that the laptop is not as quiet as mouse. There is fan noise but not enought for it to be unbearable. The fan really only kicks in when using intense applications like games. Even when just surfing the web though you can hear it slightly.

The laptop runs pretty cool, you can definately sit it on your laptop comfortably without getting your balls sizzled. :) There are no silly fan vents on the base just one on right hand side.

I will get a pic with multiple applications running side by side shortly.

If you are looking for a cool, powerfull light laptop then the W3J is in my oppinion is the perfect choice.

I bought my W3J from asusnotebooks.co.uk but I think there are cheaper alternatives although their customer service is first class.

Im not too shure how to find the default clocks but I am doing the benchmarks now.

The sound from the speakers is just as good as you would from a laptop but I am not the best person to ask about sound quality.

I am wireless now and the reception is very good. I live in a house with very thick walls and it seem so cope better than my last laptop.

I will give you an update on battery life once I get a chance to test out all the conditions.

I agree there are a hell of alot of stickers on this think. There is even one stating it has bluetooth!

I hope this answers many of your questions, I will get more benchmarks shortly.

    Very nice.

I wonder when the fans turn off when you are idling or doing nothing much. For mines at 40 degrees, the fans automaticallt turn off, and it's usually when I'm surfing and watching movies, which is pretty amazing.

    CanadaSys' demo unit scored a 3876 -

    Muy en fuego!

EDIT: Rookie - just noticed different benchmark programs. Makes sense now.

Yeah, it's pretty sick. It's sort of an older benchmark though so with these specs it's to be expected. Not to take away from it being great, but some of the more recent benchmarks may be more telling.

3920 3Dmarks05 is pretty good, i'm sure you can increase that number after you reformat and get rid of all that bloatwares.

Huh? The W3V I got didn't have anything other than the drivers and the Power Management software installed. I even had to install the DVD Player software off the included disk myself! Asus seems to be very good about not installing a bunch of **** on thier systems, which is a major + in my book.

Are you talking about the lid? It's brushed aluminum on both...lighting is the variable.

MIT - very little if any bloatware from Asus.

Keep in mind all that packages may vary - ie...this wasn't one for the N.A. market right (I think the N.A. one does not have the mouse)

Yes the bluetooth mouse is included along with a good bag.

The asus warranty is 2 years.

The keyboard is very good, it is crisp and is an excellent size.

The resolution is 1280 x 768, and in my oppinion is just right.
