You're just asking for an overheat running it on a carpeted floor!
Keep up the good work and let us know when you get some benches. How's the heat in the palmrest? -
Patiently waiting....
-
I only temporarily put it on a carpet to take pictures as my table is so cluttered. More pics.

Thanks for the pics. I'm salivating. Are you planning on putting a protective cover or cloth over the keyboard to keep the screen from getting scratched, or do you think that will even be a problem (not sure with the magnetic closure for the lid).
-
.......
davids is king
this is surreal
someone actually have the w3j already with him -
The palm rest is totally cool even when I was playing battlefied 2 but I was only playing for about 20 mins. There is quite warm air coming from the vent but its not unbearably hot.

I do not plan on putting a protective layer on the keyboard as I dont think it will be problem.
-
Is there a picture of the back, or are there no connections back there?
-
Thanks. That's reassuring.
The palmrest being cool is also reassuring. Do you have all the settings on BF2 cranked up? -
there are no ports at the back of the w3, if that's what you're asking
-
-
np
only the batt's there..
-
I had all the setting cranked up to full and the game ran completely smoothly -
If anyone has any questions about the machine just ask and I will be more than willing to answer.
-
how's the screenn..
indoor and outdorr -
Would you say the palm rest is black or gray? I cant really tell from the pictures
Thanks -
uh uh..
the virtual left right click on the pad.. is it there? -
hi thekingdavids,
how much noise does the machine make ? ( jet engine ? quiet as a mouse ? )
how often do the fans come on ? how quiet is it when no ones around and everything is silent?
how hot does the machine get ? can it be used on your lap comfortably ? are there any silly fan vents on the base of the machine ?
any pictures of multiple apps open please ? i would like to get an idea of how good the screen resolution is on this laptop. any images showing many windows open or side-by-side apps open would be great.
these are my main concerns in regards to this laptop. i just want a super fast laptop that is cool and quiet.
was the price you got the best in the UK? any other good reputable e-tailers around?
thanks for any input! -
Can you find out the default clocks on the x1600 (should be able to go to display, advanced, ATI CCC, then clocks or overclocking or something) Then also run a few benchmarks for us
3dmark05, 3dmark03 if you want, pcmark05 yada yada
Congrats dawg, that thing is way nice!
-
hmm...how is the sound from the speakers?
-
wow~!!
NICE~!!
><
*waits for the result of the benchmarks*
XD
[this is so exciting.. hahaha] -
This is a little like peeking at your present before Christmas. Part of me doesn't want to look or know, the other part can't help it!
-
edit* I love that asus mouse :x -
Really nice!
Do you have a router? If yes, how is the wireless reception with the W3j? -
Can you also test to see how long battery life runs under these conditions?
- playing a game constantly
- when surfing the web at max brightness
- surfing the web at minimal brightness
- watching a movie
Your pics look great, I'm really looking forward into purchasing one of these -
haha.. david is gonna be really bz being the 1st one in this forum to receive the w3j..
=P -
Is that a laptop ? can barely see through the stickers...
-
Before I answer any of the questions this is the 3Dmark03 score. More benchmarks to come.

Awesome, well done with the pics and such. Keep us up to date. Glad to hear that things are well thus far. Looking forward to some benches, soon as you get the chance. Good luck!
Man, have you named her yet? She's pretty hot... lol
Jay
EDIT: curses, beat me to it... 3DMark05 next? -
The Screen is brilliant, it is sharp and very clear. I have seen other laptops with glossy screens and find that there are lots of reflections but on the W3J they are scarce. Indoor the screen is just fine but I have not tested it outdoor yet.
The palm rest is a very dark grey.
There is no virtual left right click on the pad just the the left click when tapped.
I have to say that the laptop is not as quiet as mouse. There is fan noise but not enought for it to be unbearable. The fan really only kicks in when using intense applications like games. Even when just surfing the web though you can hear it slightly.
The laptop runs pretty cool, you can definately sit it on your laptop comfortably without getting your balls sizzled. There are no silly fan vents on the base just one on right hand side.
I will get a pic with multiple applications running side by side shortly.
If you are looking for a cool, powerfull light laptop then the W3J is in my oppinion is the perfect choice.
I bought my W3J from asusnotebooks.co.uk but I think there are cheaper alternatives although their customer service is first class.
Im not too shure how to find the default clocks but I am doing the benchmarks now. -
sweeeetttt....... i like the dark look too..
thanks davids
i was so stunned, i didnt know what to ask -
The sound from the speakers is just as good as you would from a laptop but I am not the best person to ask about sound quality.
I am wireless now and the reception is very good. I live in a house with very thick walls and it seem so cope better than my last laptop.
I will give you an update on battery life once I get a chance to test out all the conditions.
I agree there are a hell of alot of stickers on this think. There is even one stating it has bluetooth!
I hope this answers many of your questions, I will get more benchmarks shortly. -
Very nice.
I wonder when the fans turn off when you are idling or doing nothing much. For mines at 40 degrees, the fans automaticallt turn off, and it's usually when I'm surfing and watching movies, which is pretty amazing. -
That benchmark is SICK - no?
CanadaSys' demo unit scored a 3876 -
Muy en fuego!
EDIT: Rookie - just noticed different benchmark programs. Makes sense now. -
-
3Dmark05
http://www.freemyimage.com/ims/pic.php?u=13xa0hD&i=49
3920 3Dmarks05
I am new to finding benchmarks so if there is a way of increasing this score can someone tell me how.
Thanks -
thanks thekingdavids for your comments!
from all of us possible buyers thanks, -
just feel a little disappoint -
thekingdavids, is the included mouse bluetooth
-
i thought the asus global warranty was only for 1year
-
ahhh.. gotta love the information technology age...
3920 3Dmarks05 is pretty good, i'm sure you can increase that number after you reformat and get rid of all that bloatwares.
can't wait to get mine! -
how is the keyboard feel?
-
Just looking at those pictures makes me want it even more. But i'm patient and I can wait till summer. Thanks for the preview thekingdavids
-
Huh? The W3V I got didn't have anything other than the drivers and the Power Management software installed. I even had to install the DVD Player software off the included disk myself! Asus seems to be very good about not installing a bunch of **** on thier systems, which is a major + in my book.
-
Is the resolution of the screen 1280 x 768 like the w3v or did they upgrade the screen to a newer model thats 1280 x 800?
-
MIT - very little if any bloatware from Asus.
Keep in mind all that packages may vary - ie...this wasn't one for the N.A. market right (I think the N.A. one does not have the mouse) -
Yes the bluetooth mouse is included along with a good bag.
The asus warranty is 2 years.
The keyboard is very good, it is crisp and is an excellent size.
The resolution is 1280 x 768, and in my oppinion is just right. -
hmm... it's bluetooth mouse? i thought it was just normal wireless mouse?
