Hello... I have browsed this forum for nearly a year now without bothering to register... and even purchased a W3J based on the glowing reviews. I have had my w3j since last September and the paint, black paint specifically, around the ports is starting to scratch off; hardly noticeable but still annoying.

The silver paint on the battery is also scratching due to the close proximity to the bottom portion of the screen; this only occurs on the mid-portion of the battery..

Would a permanent marker hide the scratching of the black paint?

Oh and... anyway to remove hand oil from the keyboard after leaving a shiny surface due to extended use?

    Thank you for the help!

i don't think it's hand oil but just normal wear. maybe you can find small bottle of paint, i know some furnitures come with those.

I have been using one since august and none of those happened yet. Maybe you should take it to Asus under guarantee.

I use my notebook at least 12 hours a day, continuously; I am a loser. I have already replaced one keyboard through Asus due to wear on the keys.. and I am sending my battery in next week for replacement.. I've also coated the palm-rest area with clear film to preserve it...

The Vyper case I use has scratched the edges of the laptop a bit with the zipper mechanism, hence why I am wondering whether or not a permanent marker will blend in with the black paint on the sides..

    Thanks!

P.S. This is the greatest laptop I have ever used.. I am having a blast playing through Stalker and Supreme Commander!

For the keyboard, I suggest you buy a keyboard protector designed for W3J from www.kbprotector.com.

I will be receiving that exact product tomorrow... Purchased it off of ebay two weeks ago.. One question, will the keyboard cover actually stay on the laptop when I move it, or will it fall off?

If it's really the same with the product that I bought from www.kbprotector.com, then it will actually stay on the keyboard, without any adhesive whatsoever.

Is this retailer reputable? They ship from Taiwan I believe and 7-14 days delivery time.

@AxlRose8MyFries: let us know how it works out on your W3J....pictures would be great if you could take some with it on. :D

@ dt34: www.kbprotector.com is OK, I ordered about 5 keyboard protectors (for various notebooks) from them in the past. 7-14 days delivery time is real. You just need a PayPal account.

I think a keyboard protector prevents heat (or air flow) form escaping through the keyboard area.

What would a safe setting be for over-clocking my 1600? I do not want to fry my beauty.

That's ok. The 2 buttons on my trackpad are chipping their paint already. There is a large discolored mark on the left click one with a large noticeable area with no paint on it. Recently, the right click button started doing the same thing :/ I'd rather be losing paint by a port.

    AxlRose8MyFries,

That's not actually oil from your hand on the palmrest - your hand is acting as a superfine sandpaper and is polishing the palmrest. This effect varies between users' skin type and roughness.
Once I've had enough, I'm going to airbrush it, and depending on how that turns out, I'll may get a replacement from proportable.
