Will the Asus W3J be able to be upgraded to the Merom processor when it comes out? I am set on buying it, but just want to make sure that it will be able to handle the merom processor. Thanks in advance.

its unclear whether current chipsets would be compatible with the new merom, intel has not been clear on that yet. what they have told us is that the merom with have the exact same pin layout so it will sit in current yonah sockets. that gives a glimpse of hope that it can be upgradable without new chipsets needed. we can all hope.

it should be fine with a bios update

i know that the merom processor is compatible in the Dell Inspiron E1705. Doesn't the Dell have the same chipset as the Asus? If it works in the Dell, shouldn't it work in the Asus also?

it should work

We get this question a lot. Theoretically it is supposed to work. Some are skeptical given Intel's track record. Most accurate answer is we'll have to wait and find out

ok so far from what we know, yes Merom (Core 2 Duo) can be put into an existing Yonah notebook and the NAPA platform. There is a high chance that ASUS laptop would need a BIOS upgrade.
Yes the chipset is the same across all laptop brands.
But honestly its best to wait untill a person or a tech place does it and reports back to us.
Thanks,
