^ Kierk - you're making me jealous...luckily I'll be doing the same thing in an hour or 2.
Can you give a quick run down of your steps to convert to NTFS. I remember seeing it in another post, but if it's not a problem.
Also holla back if you're adjusting the partitions.

where are the 3 latches to remove the keyboard, so that i can get access to the ram slot?
-
PROPortable Company Representative
3 latches are - on the left, center and right above the keyboard... basically the ESC key.... F8 I think... and DEL.
To go to NTFS - there is an icon on the desktop.. just click it and it'll guide you through... trust me.. that's a fine way to do it without having to reformat and the performance is the same...
Just as a note, because I don't know where else to put this right now...... only 23 W3j's remain from our shipments and no more for close to a month...
.. and the site is back up and working. There was only one problem...... lighting blew a couple raid cards and our database is still screwy.... the products are fine, but those of you trying to look for your orders that are already in.... you won't find them. If you have a question about your order, you can email me directly and I'll help you out...... the remaining W3 shipment is tomorrow and like I said.. there are 23 left, but those of you who haven't shipped yet, will ship on Friday... so that's good. Let me know if you have any other questions. -
The thing I don't like is the partitioning. I deleted the one that was 36 gigs (D drive) thinking the excess would just go over to the C drive. It didn't (but I didn't restart it either). My next project is getting the partitions the way I want but its the first time I've ever messed with it. I'd like to just make it one drive I think but haven't figured out how (I haven't tried real hard though either). If worse comes to worse I'll just keep it the way it is and make the D" drive for songs and games.
That will have to wait a bit though. Right now I'm installing Oblivion and I'm gonna give it a nice test drive. Then my friend should be here and he is moving in so I'll have to help him unpack.
I am absolutely in love with the w3. I can certainly understand Justin's and other's praise of Asus. This thing is beautiful and rock solid. My only complaint so far is the touch pad (which I never really intend on using)...I kept hitting the side of it to scroll when I was manuvering with it. That is probably mostly due to my own blundering and certainly something I would become more acclimated with over time - and maybe something that can even be turned off. But now I have my external mouse hooked up and its not an issue.
This is why we waited 2+ months...I'm thoroughly impressed! -
Worth....Every....Penny....
Just opened the box and took this puppy out and all I can say is
DAMN.... One sexy laptop! Gonna play around for a bit but trust me... I'll be back
[EDIT - wow, I forgot how many times a reboot is required when installing stuff on a new system...] -

... you know you could go into the synaptics drivers and disable that scroll if you don't like it.. right? -

Use it and you'll get used to it... most people who think they hate touchpads can't be torn away from them after a month or so of using them.... so believe me when I say you'd love it if you used it more.
-
. I'm sure I will use it more when traveling etc... I don't think I'll be using it fore gaming anytime soon though...lol. I'll attempt and use it more when I'm surfing the net etc...
I've decided I want to get this partioning business taken care of before I start moving all my files over from my old computer. I am totally new at doing this. What I'd like to do is just merge the two drives. Do I need to dload some additional software to do this or is there a way I can do it in windows? Like I said above, I deleted the one but never restarted, if I restart will all the data be allocated in one drive or is my C drive (system drive) stuck at 54 gigs unless I dload some additional software to change it? Like I said, I've never messed with partitioning before so any advice/shove in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. -
I need to figure some way to copy over a bunch of files also...what's the best way?
-
-
I got to figure that out...maybe go out and get an HD...
My work lappy doesn't have a burner at all...POS. -
-
What about setting up a small network and transfer the files over wireless connection, or even getting an RJ45 cable and using a direct connection to transfer the files. Speeds will be good and should be more cost effective than buying an external HD

i just changed the ram on my w3j from 1gb to 2gb. it was fairly easy. also does anyone notice how hot the ac adapter gets?
-
-
-
Immediate reaction on the screen is that it's very bright and real crisp.
-
Also, for those who may be wondering, the bluetooth is working very nicely as well. I've got a Logitech V270 BT mouse and I'm quite happy. Although I can't wait to start some gaming on this bad boy, I think I'll just bask in its glory for a little while... plus I think I might wait a little bit to play games until I get my 1GB ram stick in there -
I just go into the preferences for each icon and I could take some of them from the taskbar that way.
-
yup ac adapter pretty hot...and a bit big (well compared to a 14" thinkpad i was using before)
ok..this is a bit of a newb question but after i restarted after installing basic stuff, the OSD seems to stay on after changes are made..i'm talking about the thing that says office mode/super performance/brightness..any one know what i changed by accident so i can change it back to fade? -

In case anyone is looking for a sleeve for their W3J, it fits perfectly in the small case-pc sleeve.
I had reviewed it earlier without the W3j in hand (you can check it out here http://forums.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=48605) -

Guys... the AC adapter is a 90w.... mainly to power that graphics card! ...... 90w power supplies do get hot....... they're transformers... remember that. This is the same power supply the W2 uses......

My W3J was shipped a day ago and is in Memphis now and on to it's destination. I was at the sort facility last night, I guess I could have picked it up
LOL I was 12 on the list on the original pre-order, but I guess after the cancellation I was move to about 100...no worries, it will get to the house and I'll be on the road. With any luck, the wife won't just leave it sitting out on the front door step and will sit in in the office....

Teflon I believe you have to be there to sign for it otherwise they will not just leave on the doorstep like most packages.
-
For transfering files, I have done this lots of times.
I used to use a cable, that is USB to USB and it installs a small app that runs like windows explorer, once each computer is plugged in you just copy between the computers like copying in windows explorer, its cheap, you can buy them at any computer shop, and you can copy from any computer with USB.
Then I brought a HDD enclosdure, which I think is fantastic, just remove the drive and plug it in and copy, prety simple! it is also cheap for the enclosure only but it does require you to be able to remove the drive from the laptop you are copying from.
Also for changing the partition, you need to use a program like partition magic -
Or you can just put both laptops on your home wireless network. Map to the other harddrive and copy the files over.

hey guys, got my W3J, played with it pretty much all last night. was going to post my initial impressions but i forgot my NBR password and i couldn't log in from my home comp(couldn't access my work e-mail from home to retrieve my pw).
just wanted to put out that its a beautiful machine, and the screen is pretty damn nice. the viewing angles are not bad at all, like many people were worried about.
the only things im not ecstatic about are some of the things that people talked about with the W3V, mainly the sound volume/quality and the touchpad seems not as smooth as the one on my friends livestrong special edition HP notebook(which is the only other notebook i've really used more than a few times). i'm sure i'll get used to both though, since neither detract enough from the notebook as a whole to really warrant not purchasing it.
tonight i'm planning to get a couple of diagnostic tools to check out the CPU/HD/GPU temps, can anybody recommend one? i installed a home version of everest and the temps seemed awfully high, but then a message popped up and said that this version of everest is not fully compatible with my system, so i'm hoping that the readings were off.
anyway, i'm thinking of writing up a full review for the site, seeing as how i have nothing planned for saturday so far.
i also just wanted to say thanks to justin for dealing with all the hassle and **** involved with the whole pre-order situation. -
I received mine last night. Wasn't home to sign for it, so I had to go down to the airport to pick it up (fedex is there). I'm quite pleased to have it. So happy right now.

Since for once we seem to have a decent grouping of remaining W3j owners..... while you guys still pay attention to the forum or to my emails... trying to get people to leave reseller ratings has been like pulling teeth the last 6-7 months (too busy after they get their new toy)... any of our customers who haven't yet posted anything over there, it would certainly be appreciated... you could do it on your new W3

I just got my W3J from the FedEx guy. Unfortionatly I work graveyard and I have to go to sleep now, I will open my box later.
