Should the w3v fan every stop? I've had the notebook for a few days and I didn't notice if the fan ever stopped, but it's at 53C right now and the fan isn't blowing. Is this normal?

I just reset the computer and all of the sudden the fan is running at 1200rpm?

And now the temperature is 48?

    I'm confused.

As long as the fan doesn't stay on ALL the time.. you should be okay.
Also, try to put the CPU into "Dynamic Switching" mode so that it throttles down and produces less heat... then the fan won't run so much.
    Or avoid hot rooms.

Sorry maybe I didn't describe the problem clearly.

I thought that at 53 degrees the fan should be running, but it wasn't. Then when I reset the computer it started running? Is there something wrong?

And where do I change the settings of the fan?

Did you update the bios? Can you feel it pushing any air? It can certainly still run without you hearing it... that's the only reason I ask.

I actually can see the fan speed on a program called Probe 2.

It said that the fan wasn't running, and I couldn't feel any heat leaving the fan. The computer was getting abnormally hot (53 degrees) when I wasn't pushing it at all... It was very abnormal.. Usually the fan is running at 1200.

I have updated the bios to the version released in february.

Oh, well first of all, what bios did you use? Because that was like the original bios and even the 2nd shipment shipped with a newer bios than that. Where'd you buy it? The latest bios was from June 7th 2005 and you can find it here:

    It's version 0502A. I bet that's your problem.

I don't know how downloading a new bios will help.. This was a unique event, it's not consistent.

But, on the note of the bios. I can't install the latest one.. When I try to install with WinFlash V2.16 it comes up with an error. I had no such problem installing the previous bios version though!

Um... ok well I didn't realize it was a one time thing.... almost not even worth worrying about unless it happens again.

But if you don't have that bios, I'd suggest using it as it's changed things including how the fan works.... don't know what happened with winflash, but that's not normal... what version of the bios are you using?
