I've just opened my xmas present: an Asus W3V, I ordered it myself ofcourse and on the web site it showed a black picture of the Asus. Now after opening it I see that it is more of a grey and silver colour, is this just the photo or are there two different colours for the UK version of the Asus W3V?

    What mine looks like:

What the one on the web site looked like:

The dark silver colour seems to be difficult to photograph properly. There isn't to my knowledge a black model.

The dark silver + light silver colour scheme is quite attractive and wears quite well. So, even if the colour isn't quite what you expected, I hope you agree that the looks are well above average.

So you are saying there is only one colour and it IS that grey/silver one?

I'm 99% sure. I have a distant recollection that around launch time (April 2005) there was discussion about the colour with the conclusion that the pre-release models had a darker colour. Some of the photos of those models may still be in circulation.

Aren't you happy with the dark / light silver?

I bought my w3v in the summer and to my knowledge that is the only color available. {dark silver/gray} I don't think that there is an all black available. Unless there is something I don't know but all of the USA models are dark silver. I admit those two pictures you posted did look very different. I know that there was a readers test report posted on this site and they were located in Europe BUT the color was the same dark silver/gray.
    Hope this helps

W3V only comes in dark grey/silver. The black pictures you see are most likely in different lighting...or perhaps a promotional model.

Yup. I just got my w3v and it's definitely lighter in color than I expected. Still very nice though.

Well i got my w3v from agearnotebooks, i got it like 6 months ago and its greyish slight dark silver, the picture in agear shows preety black and i tink its due to the camera lighting angle.

Just a thought here since reviewing this thread again, that might be a preproduction ie. prototype picture. As far as I know all the W3V's are that dark gray/silver color.
