Well this should be my final post of this thread. I recieved my W3V a day late - late Thursday. It was a long process getting this laptop but now that I'm using it I would have to say that it was well worth it overall.

It arrived with one dead pixel; about 3cm from the left margin half way down the screen. Obviously this is a bit disappointing but the screen overall is brilliant and not suffering from any of the defects in terms of light leakage that has been mentioned by other owners.

All things considered I'm very happy with this laptop - the faults are quite minor in general and I feel I can easily live with them. I might post a full review after I've had some more time to play with my new toy, then again I might just go on playing and just nod my head every time it's complimented.

I have found that there is no heat issue on mine as said before, i would like speculate that Asus has fixed this by installing a Hitachi 80gig. the right side gets warm but not hot.
I have taken off the Asus Probe and Power4Gear, and replaced this with Centrino Hardware Control hxxp://www.pbus-167.com/chc.htm#anchor_download
If you install this make sure that you remove the Asus programs, overwise you will get the blue screen of death when you pull out the AC and run on Batt.
i like CHC much better, it seems to have a constant 43c CPU and 42c HDD when selected on Dynamic Switching. You also are able to down clock the GPU , and slow down the HDD :)
This is great to me cause you are not using that much of the ATI and HDD when surfing...etc...
    Go the Glossy !

OVERALL IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT.

    Thank you Asus :asus:

im tossing up between the W3V and the HP DV1000! Can anyone share any tips on why the W3V would be a better buy?

    Thanks

w3's got a few things going for it, but the major issue is Dv1000 is integrated graphics, w3v is dedicated.

Question: Ive seen a few different w3 finishes in pics, is the w3v sold in australia the same as the us model, ie silver with darker touchpad , or is it like some pics ive seen from asia of a much darker almost black finish all over?
