    Hi there,

My Asus W3V comes in today; I would like to upgrade the RAM but am wondering if this voids the 2 year global warranty. Anyone know?

    Thanks!

No it does not. Memory and most hard drives are considered user upgradeable parts.

I don't think that does apply for ASUS.

Just keep the old components and put them back in if you ever need to send the computer for repair. Asus's service obligation is for the equipment they sold you.

Agreed; if you change the RAM and/or HDD, ASUS will not provide any service on your notebook.

Changing the RAM and HDD, to ASUS, is considered voiding the warranty...like John said, just keep the old parts and put them back in IF you need to ever service it.

to clarify, I only want to add on the the existing RAM, as it is 512 X 1, with another channel to spare

Then go ahead, but take the extra RAM out if you ever need to send the computer back to Asus.

this is tru, i talked to a guy who worked for ASUS headquarter in the US. He says that you can go ahead and upgrade your ram, why else would they give you an empty slot, but just take it out if you ever have problems. There is no way that they will be able to tell that you added ram.

Exactly what the rep told me at an ASUS showcase here a few months ago, they were like, why else would we install only 1 module underneath the KB and leave the slot on the bottom alone? :p

Im about to send my W3V in for a few repairs - mine came with a gig of RAM, so I should remove the stick that is underneath correct? Anyone know where those directions are that explain how to do this correctly? Thanks!

Go to the ASUS FAQ and scroll down. Should be near the bottom, the assembly guides.
