I've gone through the ASUS FAQ, and visited the websites of most of the P+ and P dealers (most of which don't seem to sell Asus, as far as I can tell), but can't find anyone that sells a W3V based notebook with the ATI graphics and also gives the option to not have an OS installed. Oddly enough, one of the dealers who posts here with a URL that indicates that they are 'gamer pc oriented' offers no OS, but no ATI? Go figure!

I have legitimate access to MS OSss, and am toying with the idea of installing the latest Longhorn Beta on it even. Anyone know of any reputable dealers that will sell a custom config (including the ATI graphics) w/o the OS?

    Thanks!

The W3V is sold as an Ensemble unit- that means complete with ATI X600 and a Windows OS. It's not sold as a barebone/whitebook. Most dealers sell them as-is and all for about the same price. So I dont think you'll find the "cheaper" place to get it, BUT if you go to Geared2Play.com they're selling it with an extra stick of RAM- free. Here's the link: http://www.ynot2k.com/products/laptops/prebuilt.htm

After you get it, you can do what you want with it, install Longhorn, Vista, MacOS, or whatever. Dress it up for Halloween if you want. :p

Hey, I just noticed you were in New Jersey. Geared2Play.com is in Brooklyn, NY. You should check them out.

I actually did check them out. They were the "gamer pc oriented" URL I refered to. Actually, I wasn't looking for the 'Ensemble' model, but a configurable model. The extra 512MB stick is nice, but I'd want 2GB and the 2.0 or 2.13Mhz processor and a 100GB HD. Thier Z63A configurable model has these options, as well as the no OS option, but not the ATI graphics. AgearNotebooks.com (mentioned favorably in these forums) has the configurable option with the ATI, but without a no-OS option (I think I'll drop them a line and see if I can still get this config). I figured if I could find what I wanted without the OS, I could save $100-150 bucks.

    Thanks again.

There aren't much places that do that, AGear/PortableONE being the only ones I can think of(There is one more...).

But you have to remember the 2 year international warranty you are voiding! Just in case you travel/relocate!

We will configure the W3 unit for you however you want. But you cannot purchase it without an OS. The OS is "tied" to the machine when it comes to the dealer. So it is just not possible.

We can make you a W3 maxed out, with our 2 year warranty, and possibly you are able to take advantage of one of our coupons, and this would make up for some of the cost of the OS you have to purchase.
