    Hi guys,

I'm trying to locate the W3j optical hard-drive expansion kit to buy online, but am having some trouble. I have the plastic mezzle kit that the hard drive and adapter sit in instead of the optical drive, but I don't know where to buy another hard drive or the adapter to make it plug in properly.

I have for my main drive a 7200 RPM 100GB HD and I think I want to get a second for the optical bay. My question is basically this, does anyone know a trusted vendor that I can contact to get both the adapter AND the hard drive who I can trust to send me all the parts I need? I googled the part last night and got some results on websites, but none of them detailed exactly what they were providing.

At any rate, a place to get the 7200 RPM 100GB HD and all the other parts I need to install it in the optical bay would be appreciate. Also, if anyone has done this before, your experiences would be valuable too.

    Thanks all,

    Ramzie

Does anyone know what I need besides the plastic bezel that the hard drive sits in and where I can get it?

Eddie at BTOTech.com does a lot of out-of-warranty repair work on Asus models - I'd try contacting him and ask if he has an adapter lying around you can purchase. If not, he might be able to provide you with the correct part # to find one at the Asus eStore or by calling their TechSupport.

As for HDD, and presuming you are in US, just get one at NewEgg and I think it has to be PATA (I don't think Asus had switched the W3j back then over to SATA, but I could be wrong). Good to excellent prices, and you have it in less than 3 days.

The plastic bezel that comes with the laptop is useless. The housing kit itself includes its own plastic bezel. What you're looking for is the "2nd Hard Drive Housing Kit".

You can buy it off ASUS directly: http://estore.asus.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=2864&catid=384

It says W3V, but it's also for the W3J.

    Cheers.
