I did take a look at it. It was $44000 NT, about $1370 or so... It did seem quite nice... I must say though the design and build quality is still a little behind the W3j. It definitely doesn't look as nice. For having a built in TV tuner and being kind of a multimedia based notebook, the speakers were terrible! You couldn't hear them at max volume. The remote control was kind of neat, the computer was heating it up like an oven. It was burning hot when I pulled it out. I must say it has the most features out of any 14" notebook out there. But the looks, and the fact that it cost more steered me away from it. I'm either going to go for the W3j or going to get something else when Merom comes out. I have no desire to have a TV tuner or remote and I never use a webcam so the extra features It has are useless to me. And if you want to use the TV, you have to lug an external antennae with you.

Don't mean to hijack this thread...Just a couple questions about that BenQ

Is there any way of getting this BenQ Joybook anywhere in the US? It looks pretty stinkin good to me. Except for the TV Tuner being completely disabled.

But then again it did say HDTV so would a regular TV Signal work with it then?

    So two questions

1.) Is the BenQ available anywhere in the US?
2.) Even though the HDTV tuner is disabled would it work with an analog signal?

    Thanks
    Will

Totally agreed. For same or even slightly cheaper price, I will take an Asus over BenQ. I thought BenQ was much less in Taiwan......

What do you mean by "it was burning hot when you pulled it out" ??? Did you play some games or run some benchmark program on it ????

BenQ is my only option here in Indonesia for 14" widescreen with dedicated videocard. Selling price is US$ 1.490,-

I would say the remote was around 50C. When I pulled it out it was quite hot, but it cooled off fast. They had an Hp there and it was just as hot when I pulled the remote out. The guy at the shop was playing World of Warcraft when I asked to see the computer, so I guess that is part of the heat problem. I don't think it gets any hotter than the W3j. If It's your only option then I'd go for it! It packs the most features out of any other laptop I have ever seen!

Jasonck08, sorry to bother you again. How is the BenQ built quality compared to Asus A8 series or even better A6JA?
My other option is that Bulky 15.4" wXGA A6JA that will be available in couple of weeks time & is sold for US$ 1525,-

I really envy you with such low price for W3J. I f I were in your shoes I would have bought it without slight hesitation.

I would say the build quality is comparable to the A8 series. It seemed to be built quite well, perhaps almost as good as the W3j. I must say It didn't look quite as good, wasn't quite as attractive but it's still not bad at all. I really like the brushed aluminum lid on the W3j. But If Asus didn't exist I would definitely go for the BenQ. If you can buy it locally can you not go to a computer store and play around with one? I would highly recommend seeing it in person if at all possible. Here in Taiwan It comes with a 2 year warranty. Is it the same there?

Guarantee for BenQ in Indonesia is 1 yr international + 2 yrs local.
    For Asus: 2 years international.
