Hi everyone,
I've been looking over the post concerning the w3v and I'm very impressed with what I've read. I was hoping some people who own the w3v could answer some questions for me. I'm currently deciding between the Asus w3v and the Sony FS series. I'm going to be using the laptop for heavy graphic intensive programs - web & graphics design programs, some 3d animation programs, some video editing, and the occasional game. I dont need to have the most amazing perfomance but I dont want something that will be sluggish, so I'm nervous about the video card in the w3v. Is it good enough? or should I go with a customized FS series with 128mb dedicated video ram. I'd prefer the Asus because it's lighter and I like the design better, also the FS series seems to have some sluggish reviews. Any advice would be appreciated!

The X600 is good, but not top of the line performance wise. It has no problems handling what I throw at it. But I play light games and do no graphics or video work. I am hoping it will play Age of Empires 3 when it comes out, thats all I will ask of it.
On W3V - sweet -
For web and graphic programs, the gpu isnt important, here system memory is the key, the same for video editing, the places which are dependent on a decent gpu are 3d games and animation, and for these the x600 should be pretty good....not world beating but it will run most without issues. So I would say that the ASUS will suit you well, although I would suggest getting at least 1Gb or Ram or more.....also a 7200rpm hdd might be worth a look, as this will help with video editing etc.
a
ps my friend makes 3D games for a living and until a few weeks ago was running everything (studioMax, Maya, ps etc) on an athlon XP1.6 + Geforce3, so in comparison the w3v is a large step up from that rig.

Just to give you 2 performance related examples,
1. Super Pi 1M test - 44s
2. copy DVD movie "The Incredibles" onto an ISO image using DVDShrink in about 9 minutes 50 seconds

Yeah, the AOE and Mythology series are the ONLY games I own and play, PERIOD! So I'd really like to hear how these games and the new one (will) play on the W3V. Fishfood, since you're waiting for AOE3, I'm assuming you've played all the current versions on the W3V, I'd love to hear your opinion on how they play?
dt34, I just checked up on AOE3 as far as release date and progress goes, I wasn't aware anyone had a demo or working copy yet, what's E3 and what exactly do they have and when are they saying the final release date will be?
Philip, thanks for those numbers...have you been able to use DVDshrink to successfully burn a DVD that's playable in all home entertainment DVD players? I too tried it with a movie and It won't play on anything but this computer. When I put the DVD into another computer, the files are all there, and I can play them in sections, but I can't get it to play normally in any (other) players. I was wondering If I need another program to continue the process successfully, or if DVDshrink should do it all on it's own? I have version 3.1 if that matters.
Thanks everyone!!!
Sorry terryrocks for taking your post off topic, but I feel underpantman man answered your question very well. My suggestion to you would be to add a 1GB stick of ram to the empty slot under the W3V if It's in your budget [8D] -
