I have read and researched on the Asus W5F which is available here in Singapore.
Really liking it but it have been stated that the graphics is the Embedded IntelĀ® 945GM VGA.
Does that mean it is not even the GMA 950?
Is that the Intel Extreme Graphics?
If so, i suppose I can't even play normal games with this card?
-
you can play normal games with that video chip, if you basic 3d marks, it can prove that the graphic card can handle it.
-
Really need reassurance about this -
The intel 945 is the motherboard chipset which all feature the GMA 950 graphics. so 945 is the chipset and gma950 is the graphics chipset that comes with it. You can actually play games with it. Just dont expect to play quake 4 or something.

Yeah, the latest generation of integrated graphics aren't too shabby if you ask me...they're no Ati X1600, but I think most people would be surprised how well they can actually perform in most circumstances. Unless you're actually a gamer, I think the 950 will suit your needs quite well.
If you're in the market for an ultraportable, and you can live with the screen size on a regular basis, the W5 series won't disapoint. -
Hi all,
thanks for all the replies.
Very sorry for my ignorance..
Been checking out laptops recently and most of them says GMA 950.
That i understand is the embedded graphics card.
However, on the Asus site and their brochures, it kept saying Embedded IntelĀ® 945GM VGA.
So i thought to myself, is that GMA 950 or something else?
Really sorry but from what i read, it IS GMA 950 right?
Wonder why all websites and brochures don't have that. -

I'm happy to hear that the integrated graphics should suffice if you are not a real gamer. Would it pose any problem to modest video editing and burning? Meaning, if I want to do my home movies on there, do I need to wait for the W7j or go with the W3j? Thanks.

Hiya Bracket.
The W5F should not disppoint you if you are looking for an integrated portable machine. Its pretty robust if you ask me. I tried Warcraft on it and it seems okay.. ;P
However, I am using this machine more for work so....
By the way, I am in Sin too.. kekekek ho say boh?? -

Sherman, the simple answer is no, you don't have to wait...but it's all a matter of preference...If you can wait, then wait.
As far as video editing goes, correct me If I'm wrong...but your processor, RAM and hard drive speed/performance play a much more important role than the video card in this respect. If you were to look for a system that excels in those area's, or where those area's could easily be upgraded, ie, go with a faster processor, and then have the option of upgrading RAM and hard drive, then the latest GMA 950 card should work fine for your needs.
It kinda also depends what size notebooks you're interested in buying...finding dedicated graphics on systems under 14" is much rarer than for systems 14"+. If you're looking at a 12" or less system, then you almost have no choice but to go with integrated graphics, that is unless you go with a 13.3" system from Sony, or wait out the W7J. Screen size and res might also be important to you for video editing. Having the dedicated graphics card might then come into play if you're considering using/powering a high end/res external monitor to do your work on as well. If that is something that's important to you, then you might want/need a notebook with DVI out, which the W3J doesn't have, so it goes on and on. Only you can take all these things into considertion and decide what's best for you in the end.
I'm personally waiting for the S6 and W7J models to come out before I make my final decision on going with a W3J...or ending up with one of the above options. Good luck though
