So I read some responses in one of the forums where the guy had some heat related issues with the Asus W3J, and I think G2P said 60C under normal load and high 80C for gaming is normal. I understand the 60C but is the high 80C ok?

b/c I have Notebook Hardware Control running monitoring the temperature, and it says anything over 80C is high and 95C it will shut down or something. So far I have seen temps up to 88C during gaming. When I first bought the laptop back in september 06, even when I gamed (this is the same game I have been playing since september) the highest temp would be 75C...

is there something wrong with my fan, or arethe fan holes being clogged? is there anything I can do? it seems its slowly getting hotter and hotter and hotter... I just don't want it to finally blow up in my face or something

has anybody else experienced something like this?

hmm.... it seems that u need to clean it up. if you see the vents clogged with dust then this would be certainly the case.

Get some compressed air and blow out the vents. You can also open the back CPU/GPU compartment and blow out the dust there.

I don't know what others are getting...but undervolting with NHC, I never exceed 60c--even during gaming or encoding.

Without undervolting, 70c would not be unreasonable. But if it starts to get close to 80c, I would be a bit concerned.

Its a bit on the hi side but still not overheating. I dont know how often you use this thing. If you run it 24/7 definitely clean every 3 months. 12/7 every 6 months. 3 hours a day probably will not need to clean it till you throw it away. It also depends how and where you use it. I ve had my m5n for 2+ years now. I used it maybee 2 hours a day. It slightly dusty in the fan but does not warranty blowing air through it. I cant say it caused the temps to rise either. if you have noticed a 10 degree increase from the time you bought it a few months ago and now playing the same game i would say it is safe to assume you use the laptop ALOT and it probably needs to be cleaned. I am just making asumptions here. I dont know the nature of your laptop or how you use it.

If you rin 3dmark in continuos loops on your w7j with t2400 you should see that it does come close to 80C without undervolting or raising it of your desk. It also depends what is your ambient temp. Some people have ambient heat of 65F some 75F and some 85F all depends where you live. 88C is a bit high but 80C would be what i expect out of this notebook after hours of gaming.

Be careful when you clean your fans. Most fans run into trouble when they are spun by a means other than the motor. I always take the vent cover off of my V6j then block the fan motion with a screw driver or a toothpick, then blow the computer out. I have seen way to many fans stop working after being blown on to risk it again, and if you are already have temperature problems, you don't want to kill your fan.
