    Okay I am bored and I don't think the main Asus FAQ has anything about the W7J so I was thinking of starting a small one in this thread. Simple and concise is the name of the game. I'll start.

    Is the CPU soldered onto the motherboard?
    As Justin would say, NO NO NO NO NO NO
    The W7J is an ensemble so messing with the CPU will void your warranty.

    Is the ram soldered onto the motherboard?
    Yes, a 512MB chip is soldered on, which means the max you can have right now is 1.5GB (until 2GB chips go down) and only 1GB if you plan on doing dual channel.

    Where's the latch? Are there magnets keeping the lid closed?
    No. Some paperclip tests have disproven this. The only things keeping the lid down are the nice and tight hinges.

    Will there be a refresh of the W7J with the merom core? When?
    Probably October at the earliest. There is no other evidence suggesting otherwise that the refresh will contain more than just the merom upgrade.

    When will the W7 series be upgraded to the Santa Rosa platform?
    Q1 of 2007 at the earliest. It's best not to ask at all.

    why is the lid near my webcam warm?
    The webcam eats power even when not being used. Do yourself a favor and disable it. You might be able to save a few minutes. Right click My Computer, click properties, click Hardware, Click Device Manager, right click your webcam, and click Disable.


    Please correct me if you see a glaring error because I do mix issues and models up quite a bit. Also, chime in with your own made up questions and answers. Please don't do any discussion, just give some firm (maybe concrete) facts. And thanks Justin for a lot of these answers. Oh gotta thank Eddie too or he'll kill us all. :p

    Which GPU does the W7J have ?
    NVIDIA Go 7400 (with 128 MB dedicated and can go upto 256 with hypermemory)

    Where is the cheapest place I can get the W7J?
    Ewiz.com has it for $1436, but make sure you call them and confirm they have it in stock

    Whats the battery life like on the W7J (6 cell battery provided with the laptop in the package)?
    With normal use the battery will last you between 2 hours 30 mins to 3 hours

    Where can I get a 9-cell battery for the W7J?
    At www.proportable.com for $140 + shipping... which in my opinion is kinda high for an additional battery

    Whats the battery life with the 9-cell battery ?
    Close to 5 hours

    It would have been shameless promotion if Eddie had mentioned it, but eWiz doesn't offer the W7J at the lowest price. Geared2play.com does for only $1430.

    Thats most likely becuase nobody has any left and we are stuck with more then just a few. Gotta move them.
