Anyone know why Asus does not make a workstation class notebook? As in something to compete with the HP nw8240.

Don't get me wrong, the W2V will be nice.. but the graphics card just isn't up to par for 3D applications.

Yeah, I guess the real question I had was why doesn't Asus release a notebook with an Ati V5000 or Nvidia equivilent. The X700 is the same chip.. just tweaked for Open GL apps.

There isn't that many company focusing in that arena. HP happen to be one of them.

I don't think even DELL or GATEWAY even have laptop with those video card.

Actually.. Dell, IBM, Fujitsu and a slew of smaller manufacturers use workstation class graphics cards in their notebooks. Most of them are beasts in size and power of course.. I just want the best of both worlds.

I'm using XSI 4 on my V6 and I was really pleasenly surprised what it can do. It's definitly faster than my PNY Quadro 980 XGL on my old desktop. I also tried Quadro 500 FX Go on my friends Dell and I have to say the X600 doesn't compare that bad, but the later takes real advantage of Open GL..

The program I will be using the most is Alias Studio Tools 12. If you look up the requirements, hardware overlays are used in the interface. It seems antialiasing is the only serious problem with Ati's V5000 and Studio Tools.

Anyone know if you can trick an X700 to use the V5000 driver? or does anyone use Studio Tools on an X600 or X700 and notice the glitches?
