Those of you that own a Asus notebook with an ATi X1600 256MB (512MB Hypermemory) what games do you play on it? Can you list your full notebook specs, the games you play, settings and framerates? Thank you! :)

Now I do not own one yet, but here is my best guess, an then someone who actually knows can clarify. From what I gather from cooments:
Doom 3: yes, all turned up
    F.E.A.R.: yes, med-high
Oblivion: yes med-high. med in highly populated areas.

HTH, look at Symetrikals journal thread.

Thanks everyone. Symetrical's journal was helpful. I wanted to know how the X1600 performs and what games I could play sucessfully on it (my previous notebook had a 64MB GeForce 440 Go)

I can tell you it wont have a problem running FEAR on 1280x800 with 8xAA/16xAF... It you look around you can find benchmarks of it getting 45-50 fps on those settings..

X1600 + FEAR on native resolution + 8xAA+16xAF = 45-50 fps!!?? DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH !!! I think my previous Sager with 7800GTX and 2GB RAM would have problems with this settings to score 45-50 fps.

with or without AA/AF, FEAR gets nearly the same fps. I saw a benchmark on the 7800gtx the scores were like this:
    1280x1024: no aa/no af : 64 fps
    1280x1024: 16x/8x : 59 fps

It really didnt make a difference in the graphics. You should really look around at those X1600's, they're more powerful than you think.

You don't get it, do you? I HAVE X1600 on W3J and I tested this card with FEAR and the results you have below : (1280x768, all settings to max, soft shadows off)

    aa x4 + anizo x4 – 40% below 25 fps, 40% 25-40 fps, 20% over 40 fps
    aa x2 + anizo x4 – 25%, 50%, 25%
    aa x2, anizo x2 – 25%, 50%, 25%
    aa off, anizo 2linear – 11%, 43%, 46%

7800GTX is faaar better card than X1600 and maybe you're talking about desktop versions of this cards.

I hope you are kidding. On my S96j I run FEAR at 1280x800 with mostly maximum some medium and I get 30 - 45 fps with only 0XAA/4XAF (thats a zero). It looks very nice and plays very smooth at those settings. I can't imagine the X1600 being able to run 8XAA at 1280x800 even with everything at lowest settings (and I have no interest in doing that).

    Mastha,

What drivers are you using and what program do you use to overclock the X1600? Those are some very nice 3dmark scores. I can hardly overclock my memory at all, is there any trick to it?

    Thanks!

ATI Tool + newest Omega's, that's all. At first I use "Find Max Core" and "Find Max Memory" but program shows me 585/585 so I guess it is some kind of error, so high numbers core/memory are 1000% unstable. Try to set 510/510 just like me.

    BTW. I'm 1st in X1600 Mobility on Futuremark ORB in 06 :D, in 05 3rd

Does anyone know what kind of performance difference there would be between an ATI Radeon X1600 with 512MB HyperMemory (256 dedicated) and a GeForce Go 7600 with 512MB dedicated memory? The reason I am asking is because I am trying to decide between getting an Asus A6Jm in Singapore or an Asus S96J in the US. I know that sooner or later games will start recommending 512MB of graphics memory (I think Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter already does), but would there be a huge difference between the second 256MB of graphics RAM being shared or dedicated?

sometimes cards cannot take advantage of the full 256mb, much less the full 512 mb...unless it's badass? I dont know...those two cards are in the same class and (probably) will perform in the same area benchmarks wise. That's my take...ask somebody who knows more, which is anyone on this forum haha

I have a 17 inch Asus lapto with the mobility X1600

    I have played Oblivion with a resolution a 1440X900
with HDR and 4x AA and 8X AF enabled
    and the games looks beautiful
although I havent gone outside where the trees are and grass

    it runs smoothly
I have catalyst 6.4 installed which forces AA

I also have played quake 4 but I am seeing black spots flash every now and then

is the only game that has such issue

Which Cats did you install? Mobility or Desktop? I'm still using the included drivers because there's no mention of X1600 support for any of ATI's drivers.

    these drivers DHzer0point 0.64

    work without problems

I always look for modded drivers since ati doesnt release for mobility cards
and Omega drivers are now dated
