I believe the Asus X205 laptop will be generally available on 3 Nov 2014. Today is 1 Nov and the only place where I see it listed is Amazon. There are supposed to be four colors, but Amazon only lists dark blue at this time. I am hoping all colors will be available on 3 Nov, because I would like to order one in gold. The dark blue may not be too bad, but I have seen it photographed in different lighting situations, and sometimes it seems quite blue and in others it seems quite black. I think the black looks pretty nice, but it's hard to say how it will actually look until you see it in person.

I think this laptop will be a fun device to play around with. I would like to see how Linux Mint works on it.

Is anyone else planning on buying this laptop? Do you know of anywhere else besides Amazon that is showing it for sale or anticipates having it for sale soon?

Rich, Amazon had the blue unit listed as available on 3 Nov, so that is where I got that date. But as of a couple of days ago, Amazon changed the listing to show that it "Usually ships in two to four weeks" instead of the 3 Nov date. Anyway, Amazon only shows the blue unit so I have no idea what the plans are for the other colors. I wish I had more concrete info, but unfortunately I do not. I hope you find a gold one available on your side of the pond. Most likely units in all colors will be abundantly available soon.

Are you aware that the Windows 8.1 operating system for this model is 32 bit? I plan on looking into changing that to 64 bit once I have the laptop in hand. I already know that the processor is capable of 64 bit.

I would think that with the holiday season coming up, Asus will want to make the X205 available soon so as not to miss out on sales. I am sure they are doing every thing they can in that regard. As far as the HP Stream 11, aren't you afraid of people laughing at you because of the goofy colors it comes in? It looks like a kid's toy!

Amazon is listing the blue one in stock now with normal delivery. Still no sign of the other colors.

I'm glad you have a plan in place Rich. I think I will just wait here until I see the gold unit available on Amazon or Newegg and then pull the trigger. It's not like I need this thing right away. I'd prefer to hold out and get the color that I want.

Anywhere to buy this off-the-shelf? Best Buy doesn't have this, wondering if any other brick-and-mortars do.

I just got one by sitting on Best Buy's website for several days on and off, refreshing the page until I got an open box in excellent condition for $89.99. It should be here by Wednesday.

When I search the Best Buy site for the X205 or x205ta I just get a message saying "We couldn't find anything matching your search for asus x205ta." Staples was selling it for 150 a few days ago, but now it's back up to 250. I guess it'll just take a little time for supply to catch up with demand. I hope this thing can run linux, I'm looking for a cheap laptop to run linux on

It should be available at full price ($179.99) pretty soon. That listing is off Best Buy's website because it was a limited sale that is over. I'm sure they'll relist it once get the full shipments. I'm really glad I heard about it in time to get one at $89.99, because I don't think I would spend $180 to see how far the netbook has come in all these years.
