I was wondering if anyone could offer me some help with an issue I'm having with my Asus X54C Laptop. The other day my 7 year old admitted to spilling a small amount of milk on our number pad on the pc. The computer worked fine for another day.

In the afternoon the PC had the black boot screen that is the start windows normally, with safemode or with networking. However when we choose start windows normally the keyboard wouldn't work or respond.I then proceeded to shut it down via the power button.

When the laptop tried to reboot it turned on (black screen) and the hard drive clicked once. Nothing happens. No sounds, no LCD, nothing. The lights on the mousepad are lit for power, hard drive etc. The keyboard will not respond at all when I turn the laptop on.

I have another asus laptop so I switched out the hard drives and the hard drive from the dead laptop boots the other laptop so I know it's not the hard drive?

Any ideas? Mother Board? Keyboard? I hate to spend $200 or so for a mother board then find it's the keyboard or something else. I just don't know what to do to troubleshoot this because it won't power up.

Any suggestions for a good priced mother board?

Thanks for your time and replies and your help.

The computer wouldn't care about the keyboard for something like this. Since I heavily doubt that the machine as warranty that covers accidental damage such as spillage, I recommend you look for the best repair shop around and ask them if they have a maintenance service for such accidents. The liquid most probably caused a short, the only question is, is it just the short or did some components fry because of it? Professional cleaning is required, and then if the system still doesn't start, a tech would need to check each component individually to see if it's working, if there's any shorted chips on-board etc.

Anyway, probably dead motherboard although it really depends what components were on the path of the spillage.

Alas, the only way to determine what may have fallen ill to the spill (I'm a poet - didn't know it) is to exchange a part and test. Have you already disconnected the power and given it time to dry?
