    Hello,

as mentioned in title, I own an Asus X54HR (Win7 x64 on it). Laptop is about half a year old, and since I bought it, its fan has worked a bit strange. Periodically it starts to spin much faster (for 30 to 60 sec) and is very, very loud.

If we exclude "dust in the fan", what else could cause such a work regime of a fan?

    Best regards,
    a_gris

Load; are you putting a fair amount of load on the system? That's fairly common behavior. A lot of things can cause the system to heat up; heavy work load, ambient environment temperature, "dust in the fan", perhaps even a necessary repaste (though unlikely if it was done right from factory and the laptop is only 6 months old, give or take).
