    Hi all,

hope this is in the correct area.

As per title Asus X58L been given to me as will not boot, Black screen from power on button all i get is the dvd drive spins up and fans running, sleep Zz on all the time from power on, also wireless light on, neither will turn off via keyboard, replaced keyboard for secondhand on but still same.

OK so far took out cmos battery, ram, hdd, main battery pressed power button down for 30 seconds or more, reassembled and put in main ac pack, still the same,
tried ram in my other laptop and it reads correct, HDD plugged into my desktop and did have a couple of virus on there but norton resolved them, main battery good power running without AC pack, it will spin up a dvd in the drive and try to read it but without screen on i can't see anything, also no HDD light activity.
tried pluggun VGA cable in back and trying to display on monitor but to no avail.

any ideas would be welcomed please.

PS did spot a file in C drive root saying X51.bin or similar, i'm wondering if the previous owner my redneck cousin has tried to flash the bios and not having a clue bricked it? he said all was running then screen froze tuned off and here we are black screen of death.

    please help

    thanks rob

If the laptop doesn't post, then yeah it is likely that there is a critical issue somewhere, bricked bios or hardware failure. If it is still under warranty, the best you can do is RMA directly to Asus it or use an ASP.

would i be right in saying even if Vista had become corrupt, i would still get post boot etc, just wondering if i formated c drive and see if i would get any screen response regarding the post?

If you had a corrupt vista, it would still POST, or if you prefer, you'll see the Asus logo displayed on the screen.

Oh right, sorry, Asus Service Provider. They have a list on their website, basically, they are computer shops authorized by Asus to handle RMA and repairs.

found that the top case had cut through some black tape which looks like a CPu of some kind just below keyboard, this item has what looks like heat sink tape or similar, cleared contact with case and placed some tape over previous tape, as there were metal parts protruding through the black tape, reassembled and still the same no difference so guessing it's fried.

looks like ebay to auction spares off

    thanks all
