I just saw this posted over on NBC - this is the first NB with the ATI 5730 that I have seen.

Sounds like a pretty hot system - hope this isn't a double-post but search didn't return anything for "X77" ... This may also be a Euro only since I think NBC originates here in Germany.

A 17+ inch laptop with 2 500GB drives and the power and cooling to run an i5 and the 5730 is "ultraportable?" This I've got to see! That caveat aside it seems like a slick machine at a great price.

This looks awesome, cant wait!
-
about time they moved away from nvida
-
erm..they have plenty of models with a 4650, and the W90 was the first with a 4870 so they've been using ATI and nvidia..
-
I hope It won't be too heavy...
Sgtarky... why ATI should be better than NVDIA? -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
He is probably elaborating to the fact that there are a lot more Nvidia options out there then ATI.
-
Or maybe because of Nvidia's mobile GPUs are juts always rebranding? If that 17" beast is a ultra-portable ...then I guess my X83 is a mini portable...netbooks are Microscopic ?
-
i think they call it portable because it's thin and light
-
I think the price is a mistake. Or else other news articles have it wrong. It was listed at 1,000 pounds or something not sure what currency sign it is but ($1400) so yeah.. doubt it's $1000 USD
-
I dunno, Asus has really impressed me lately with their pricing, I wouldn't be surprised if it was actually going for a grand. And if it is, I remain very much impressed by their pricing. Remember, the G72 with a quad core and GT260M or whatever goes on sale at BB for not much more than a grand...not much of a stretch to see an i5 update to hit a similar pricepoint.
-
2.26 ghz doesn't seem that much to me, but then again, for a price of about 1000€ its definitly worth more (in my opninion) than a 1.5-2k euro alienware/asus G which uses a 1.6 ghz corei7. I think I'l have more fun in getting one of these next year, and another one in about 2 years, instead of spending my 2k budget all at once.
Edit: @redline, ye their low prices are awesome, but lets hope its not because they use lower quality models to keep up with the great selling junk-brands like Acer and HP. -
Hmmm - lower quality doesn't sound so good. I just received my N81Vp - and it's a pretty nice system - but its definitely an order of magnitude cheaper than my old F8Sa. Lots of flex in the keyboard - and the bottom panels are cheaper - in addition to so-so contrast on the LCD. I hope Asus doesn't cheapen the X77 in a similar manner just to meet a price point.

Don't forget the U.S usually has lower prices as well. -
