Hello guys. I'm looking for a laptop, and doing some researching I think that the Asus X83Vm is the best choice I could make. I gotta pay it with my own money, my parents don't want to help me out, so I have to stay on something cheap. But I saw that there is the brand new version the X2 which is exactly the same as the X1. The only difference is the processor, which is slower in the new version!!

    Intel® Core™2 Duo processor P8400 (2.26GHz) for the X1

    Intel® Core™2 Duo processor P7450 (2.13GHz) for the X2

and the only other difference is the hard drive, which is a Serial ATA (5400 rpm) for the X1 and a Serial ATA (7200 rpm) for the X2.

Here's the link of the compare page:

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...2612475*1218044029788&unProductString=&catId=

Can you guys help me decide which one is better? :D

well from that comparison chart all i can see is that its very very similar on the interior but exact same on the exterioir. On the interior the difference is CPU which isn't that much of a big difference to me. and it has a faster HDD. THATS IT. same size, graphic's card, features, etc. BUT difference is on the price which is a 50 dollars difference? so thats all up to you, either you want to spend 50 dollars more or 50 dollars less. for 50 dollars more with a slower CPU and Faster HDD i don't think its worth it. My asus x83vm-x1 loaded and shutdown really fast. i was very happy with it, i wouldn't have sold it if i didn't need money so bad at the time.

yeah that's what I thought. And I don't use a lot of memory, on my desktop I can't even reach 100 gb son i don't think i need a faster HD.

Bear in mind that the HDD is usually the slowest component in modern notebooks, especially when it comes to loading programs and files.

    Hey,

not to make you lose your train of thought on your purchase but newegg.com has a decent list of asus computers such as...
    n80vn-a1

as far as hard drive speeds it depends what you use your computer for. most laptops are 5400

btw asus has a weird naming scheme and im not so sure that x2 means newer than x1

and i would go with a faster processor than a faster HD

Hi. I´m also trying to decide betweens those laptops. The x2 also has faster memory. Maybe that and the faster HD make a noticeable difference in performce. I dont know!

I love how this topic gets recycled over and over again when it comes to systems and their relative performance, but I realize that the forum members here represent a smaller slice of the public who are more bent on getting every inkling of performance out of something no matter what. Here's the biggest myth about cpu speed in the current age, which I've seen discussed a good deal over the past few months by various comparative reviews of cpus, about how similar the performance really is becoming between "budget" and mainstream/performance cpus near the same clockspeed - the most recent being today's review of a budget Acer with a dual-core T3200 by Chaz, on the main NBR page... take a look at the wPrime results.

OK, back to addressing the issue of this thread..... Unless you are doing highly cpu intensive work like encoding, compiling, transcoding, etc you WILL NEVER see any appreciable difference between a 7340 and 8400 in any real-world application. Even then, you're talking about less than 5-10% at most, which amounts to less than 5 seconds max in many applications outside of those I've mentioned above.

Faster HDDs can improve performance somewhat, but the higher areal density of the newer 5400 drives does cut into some of that advantage so they are (for most purposes) reasonably comparable.

Me, I'd spend the extra $50 on the LED screen of the -X2 as that's going to be a much more useful and noticeable upgrade for daily use, rather than focus on any of the other essentially comparable specs, but that's my personal opinion.

Finally, Asus doesn't always use their subtitles (-x1, -x2) to represent chronology or order of release (that's what the letters after the model #, i.e. G50v__ are for). While the subtitles are sequential and sometime reflect new/old, Asus also has a habit of releasing slightly different variants of a system at or near the same time and uses -x# to distinguish the systems by overall specs.

    Hi there

I am in the market to get a new laptop from Asus and the two models that I am thinking about are being offered by Bestbuy.

    1. Asus G50Vt-X5 $1000

    2. Asus X83Vm-X2 $800

I know both are good and I want something that is solid, error free (X2 reviews in BB are quite alarming) and can last for a good amount of time, yeh little portability will be an added benefit.

    Which one is better?

Alarming? Most of the reviews I've seen there are ok.

Only thing X1 has going on for it is the faster CPU thats it.

    X2 has:
    LED backlight display
    Faster HDD

For me those features outweighs the faster CPU by far.

Gey the X2 it's only $50 more + you also get faster components and parts so that right there is worth the extra $$ to me.

Thanks guys, honestly from quite some time I was confused about the whole thing the X5 is more a gaming laptop then X2 due to its powerful graphic card, screen size, keyboard etc. but weight and size were the discouraging issues for me though still wasnt sure if i should go for x2 or x5.

    X2 for me, thanks.

By the way I am not in US so a friend who will be visiting me after 10 will be getting that though he is insisting that the Toshiba Blue Label is a better and reliable choice then anything made by Asus.

Just a question, is the X2 Screen is really a LED? I know in past many claimed that X1 also got LED but never got confirmed.

Also why people are complaining about the Wireless disconnections? how it can be solved in home as well as public wifi areas?

In last if I use external monitor with this laptop then what maximum resolution i can get ?

Thanks for the reply, I am now thinking about X2 but someone from another discussion on this website strongly suggested that I should think about Asus N80 instead of BB model :( why life is so confusing :(

Look at the MSI GT627 that notebook is probably similarly weighed like the X2 but has a 9800gs its really sweet.

The problem with me or with my situation is that I am not in US and someone is getting the laptop for me and that person isnt any fond of mail orders and home delivery, will go to BB and get that because for him BB is the best place for computers (I wonder why).

My initial choice was to get a Asus N80 from Newegg or Excaliberpc with in the budget of $1000 (something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220488 )

But my friend in US refused and said that he isnt willing to take any chance regarding mail order or home delivery also he dont know exactly when he will be coming, maybe this week or next so thats why he is avoiding the mail delivery stuff :(

By any chance can you guys please please please help me by showing me some good review of Asus X83Vm-X2 (not the X1 review along with pics of X2), honestly it will be a big help for me. Thanks ok.
