    Hey all,

The release of the Asus XG station finally seems to be upon us (sooner than later hopefully) and many of us, myself included, I'm sure are wondering "gee, I really could use more graphics power in my notebook ... is this for me?" My Asus W3J is an amazing little notebook which time and time again flexes its muscle while still maintaining a great aesthetic and mobility. So here is the question. What kind of performance boost can we as consumers expect to see from the XG station in somewhat old to new notebooks? Would my W3J with a ATI X1600 graphics card benefit from a XG station? By how much? What about newer notebooks with 8800 series GPUs and ATI's latest offerings?

Basically ... my personal question is how much will a XG station with say a 8800 GTX, 9600 GT, or 9800 GTX boost the gaming performance of my W3J?

    Thanks guys.

XG station isn't in production yet. Price is still unknown. Even if it does get released, I doubt it will hold even a 8700.

Yeah comes with 8600GT and is supposed to work with the 8700 but thats about the highest it goes before you reach interface bottlenecks.

I think I recall that going too high actually causes conflicts and can give worse performance than a slower card due to the bottleneck.

The question still remains then that with a 8600, how much performance boost can we really expect to see? And even then, on an aging system like my W3J with a Core Duo 2.0 GHz CPU, will the bottleneck be the XG station bandwidth? The CPU? I'd like to see some real scores with one of these things ... Also, anyone know if they are available to the public yet for purchase? Would be neat ... Let me know!

Will the ATI XGP technology experience the same interface bottleneck? They claim 4 GB/s both ways.

We'll have to see when it comes out. The XG station will be ideal for ultra-portable notebooks that don't have those high-end graphics cards.
