    Asus Z63a vs. ThinkPad Z60t

If I decide to drop down from a 15.4" WS to a 14" WS, these are my current two favorites. Can anyone please compare features, build quality, durability, value?

I am most concerned about a nice firm keyboard, good clear display screen and build quality. I am confident the performance on both would satisfy my needs which are primairly business, Excel, Word, Outlook, Wireless, some DVD movies, music and minor digal pic editing (no CAD/3D apps). Thanks in advance.

    TC

P.S. This is a great venue to learn and ask questions. Please keep in mind, as my screen name suggests, that I am technologically challenged.

Also, can you get an internal Bluetooth device on the Asus Z63a?

    Nope.

You would be very happy with either, I'm sure. Both seem to be solid (I know the 63 is). They biggest difference in my mind is support. If you buy an Asus from ISTNC, ProPortable, C9Tech, Geared2Play, etc, you will get a very fast build (get it in a couple of days) and very personal service. Just check out resellerratings.com on any of these guys. With IBM it will be a whole different story.

The 63 has a glossy screen, I’m not sure if the IBM is matte or not. That might sway you one way or the other. Also, the 63 has carbon fiber embedded in the chassis - very strong and light.

Thanks Greg. So you cannot add the Bluetooth option at all even after market? That's a bummer. Gloss screen doesn't deter me one way or another. ISTNC is only 3 hours away but they are closed until Tuesday which surprises me considering how many people and businesses want to purchase before 12/31. Oh well another stores gain. Maybe someone else out there will make me a deal I can't refuse.

If battery running time is a consideration, the review of the Z60t at http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2567&review=ThinkPad+Z60t indicates a battery life of no more than 3 hours. The Z63A can beat this by an hour or more.

I've had my W3A (same as Z63A) for over 8 months and so far there have been no problems with build quality. Operation will be fine with the applications you use.

Its possible, you just need to buy a wireless PCI Card with BlueTooth, there are only a few options for that though.

The IBM has a regular matte screen, but as always, a **** good one!

I know Canadasys can put the Bluetooth in for something around $80 Canadian. Of course, the distance might deter you from getting here with your Z63a.

I'd opt for the z63a. While IBM thinkpads are great and their build quality is superb.. based on reviews, the Z60t is a black sheep.. not that' it's bad.. but there'd definitely some areas in its construction that other thinkpads never have. It is also pretty expensive for what you get. the Z63a is cheaper..and when working with images..its' glossy high contrast screen will look better
