Ok my asus Z70VA DVD drive is a Mat****a UJ-831D ( i believe) anyways its a 8X rated drive that has never had a firmware update made for it and only burns 8x on maybe a select handful of dvd media (not even some top rated media) Ive never liked the drive and its always causeing me problems. What im wondering is if i can purchase a really good DVD burner and put the faceplate from this burner on the new one i buy so that it matches my laptop. If so how would i go about doint this and any recomendations ona really good DVD burner that woud fit in this model of laptop.
Also i had to make this new account cause the password retrival on this forum wont send a message to my email account like its supposed to. Any idea why? My regular user name is canadian_mofo.

Hey, try NEC drive just change the bezel from your old dvdrw to the new one. Not sure about the faceplate. I have Z70VA too and got tired of the dvdrw drive so I'm going to buy an external dvdrw for my laptop.
P.S. Here the model: NEC ND6500A DVD-RW they're suppose to be good. Fits Z70V model so I don't see why it doesn't fit the Z70VA.
