I've always been curious about the ExpressCard slot on the Asus Z71V. Is it functional, or just an unused part of the chassis?

it doesn't have a express card, it has a pcmcia card, used for things like extra sound card, creative soundblaster audigy, and other kool things i can't think of.

It's not useless, but many don't use it, one company came up with a small storage case which can hold cards, money, coins, and w/e small paper like object and fits into the pcmcia slot.

Do a search in google for pcmcia devices you'll find a lot.

Hope this helps, also feel free to ask any other questions.

    Thanks,

Under the SD Slot there's another slot that says express card on the Z71V, but I can't get it open.

Thats an unused port. If you dismantle the mobo you will find its just a dud. I guess at some time or another the engineers there were planning on bringing the chassis back to life with intel 955 chipset. Who knows.

^ lol! yah, some models of the NAPA platform came with a PCMCIA slot and not an express slot.

Some models come with both PCMCIA slot and express slot, honestly it really doesn't matter, you can get the same devices for both right now.

Also there's been so little talk about these devices, i am assume people just don't use it much or at all. =\

    Thanks,
