I just invested in a Z96F barebones chassis and I am wanting to make use of the internal wireless features. I need to know what kind of internal bluetooth module is for use for this chassis. I plan on adding an internal Gigabyte Atheros wifi card (having trouble locating in Canada). I am not partial to using external devices for this reason but would rather use the internal ability if it is there. If someone can help me out it would be appreciated

I know I hate it when people don't reply to my messages, so I wanted to reply to you here. If you tell me where to check what type of bluetooth module it has I'll do so, I don't have any bluetooth software or drivers installed.

But I don't think you need to worry about it..the bluetooth module doesn't have anything to do with the Wifi card you get. I have an Intel one though in my Z96JS and can't comment. In fact, I suppose the Z96JS and Z96F may not have the same bluetooth module at all - but I still can't see where a problem would arise between the Wifi Card and Bluetooth module - they are unrelated forms of wireless communication and the signals and the drivers shouldn't interfere with each other (and you have the option to turn the bluetooth off if you don't want to use it - or to not even bother installing the drivers like I didn't...)

Would I be further ahead maybe to look into external usb wifi or bluetooth option as opposed to internal? Internal would be nice but asides from Intel I cant seem to find an Atheros in Canada....I would prefer for service reasons to deal in Canada. Surely external options arent that big of a deal to carry around

    Z96JS has internal bluetooth - Z96F doesn't.

Why go with the F? Did you buy it already? If I were you I'd go with the Z96JS or S96J if you want the lower resolution. I don't see any advantage of the Z96F... and I got the Z96JS from CanadaSys here in Toronto.

But if you already bought the F - I think you'll need an external bluetooth module for sure since it's integrated into the board and yours just doesn't have that. The wifi card is usually a standard Wifi-Class G one. Why do you want the Atheros card in particular? Not sure if there's some kind of bluetooth+wifi card for that socket..I don't think so though but I could be wrong on all of this...

Hi thanks for your response...yeah I had to go with the F model because I only have a PATA hard drive and not a SATA connection. The Atheros seems to have better reviews which indicate a much stronger performance over the intel line. I can't seem to find anything in Canada with the Atheros chip

Cool, I hear you I understand now. I also had a very nice PATA drive from old laptop, but I wanted the high res screen and a bit more space so I paid the extra $100 for the 100 GB 7200 2mb Cache SATA and put my 80 GB 5400 16mb Cache PATA drive in a USB enclosure. If you're happy with the Z96F though go for it, and saving the money by not having to buy a new drive is a definitely advantage.

I didn't realize it, I only just saw my first info on some of these modules now having bluetooth and wifi combo cards. I didn't realize Atheros was better, but definitely it could be, my Z96JS with the standard Intel wireless card doesn't seem to have nearly the range my old one did with the expansion slot wifi card.

If you do find a spot up here let me know, I'd like to know too - next year I'll need to use Wifi a lot as I did in the past 3 years (though not this year) and I have a feeling my current Intel card just won't cut it...

No problem...I'm sure someone must be able to get a line on them but literally I have had no luck. Just do to time constraints I opted for the Intel 3945. I am not a heavy power user so it shouldnt be too much a big deal however I just hate settling when you know something is better out there. It seems so far one can source the proper Atheros based wifi card on ebay....after shipping and taxes it'll probably run about $60 to $65cdn...I paid $50 for my intel. I had the opportunity for a SATA (80GB) and decided the chassis were a bit out of my range but a short big so I traded it straight up for a new 120GB PATA drive ...not realizing most advanced chassis out there call for SATA drives.
