It's been quite a few years since I last posted on here but acquiring a new laptop thought I would return!

In my first post I wanted to comment on a problem I have found with my new Zenbook UX330CA (Which is a fantastic laptop in my opinion) which others might suffer with and was driving me nuts. I struggled to find anything about this with my specific model but most mention the touch-pad is not the best but actually I found it was not the touch-pad at all but caused by the battery.

When using the touch-pad no matter what drivers or settings the mouse will at random shoot off to the other side of the screen or when trying to hold it still would shake. Even just resting your finger on the touch-pad causes it to behave strangely.

The fix was quite simple after opening it up and removing the battery. I cut a square piece of tin foil and using thin double sided tape placed it over the whole touch-pad area without going over the buttons otherwise you can hear the foil. Once you put the battery back in this stops the electrical interference from the battery transferring to the touch-pad which is worsened while charging.

I hope this helps anyone with the same problem.

*EDIT* since this thread seems to be linked to sometimes still, need to update this. It didn't actually fix anything. Placebo made me think so for a while, but it was just as bad afterwards as before. Anything the insulation might have done was temporary.

What seems to have actually fixed it for me (I'll edit again if I turn out to be wrong again) is going to device manager, and disabling Mice and other pointing devices/HID-compliant mouse. Human Interface Devices/ASUS Precision Touchpad is still there and enabled. Having both enabled (aas they are by default) seems to cause issues. Tap to touch isn't 100 percent yet, but movement hasn't done the glitchy thing since disabling the HID-compliant mouse.

    *ORIGINAL POST*

thanks for this. Have a ux331un whose touchpad was just super laggy. Once a minute it would seem to lock up briefly, fail to register taps, or the cursor would accelerate wildly.

Square bit of aluminum foil lined with kapton tape between the touchpad module and the battery and it's so much better. I'm honestly surprised it shipped in such a state. Would it kill them to have some insulation? I would have returned it before I read your post and decided to try it, but I wouldn't expect everyone to get in there and fix things. Can't recommend this laptop. Also the spacebar failed to register when hit on the corners. Fixed with some stickers underneath the cap above the rubber dome. Again, don't expect everyone to do that. Faulty touchpad and spacebar = avoid this one. Mine's awesome now, and I love the specs but basic input is likely to be fubar for a lot of people

This is such an interesting fix. I will definitely have to keep this one in mind

    Thank you for this tip.
I was able to reproduce the exact problem on my Asus Zenbook UX331UN as well.
When using the laptop on my lap, the keyboard would often fail to recognise any movements and not run as smoothly as intented.

After opening its back and taping some tin foil between the touchpad and the battery, the behaviour was not reproduceable anymore and seemed to have been resolved.
