    It's the successor of U500VZ/UX51VZ and it's name is Asus NX500 :
    View attachment 108875

The only info known about specs is that display will be a 4K and speakers system will be made by Bang & Olufsen ICEpower.

No thanks. It needs a five year warranty, complete with paid overnight express pick up and delivery. Mine has been out of service too many days due to poor quality jacks.

ASUS or (some other manufacturer) needs to make a 4K 17" inch notebook.

Yes, exactly that's why I want a manufacturer (s) to bring one out before they completely go away.

Of course it would have modern specs SSD, USB 3.0, Thunderbolt port? (not necessary) but it would be nice. Thin/slim (no DVD/Blue ray drive) or at least optional any high end intel or AMD processor would be fine with me although I would prefer intel.

Now will this happen before 17" inch get to a point of being total done away with maybe? Since we now have 15" screens appearing (a couple last year Dell XPS, Precision m3800 the two that I can name off hand) along with the below 15" notebooks I hope so.

I think if there are going to be 2K or 4K screen it would have to be before or in the next refresh of the models (which I assume won't be until Intel Broadwell) to name a few (Razer, Asus, MSI maybe some off brand and they be limited to a 17" gaming notebook. I'm not sure about Dell they have the 15" XPs and I don't think they are going to give the 17" Inspiron a 2k or 4k upgrade or HP I doubt they will give the Pavilion or Envy a screen res above 1080p also in the 17" range but hey anything is possible I guess.

I did almost forget about Dell's Alienware so maybe there next upgrade they could get a 4K screen but not sure about that.

We'll from what I read this will be a 15", I was 99 percent sure it would be. I was just hoping that there was 1 percent chance that it would be a 17".

Little worried how they're intentionally covering the screen area. This is usually ASUS' trick to block thick bezels.

Regardless, can't be more thrilled about this. You guys have no idea how much I've waited for a high-end thin and light 15-inch laptop from ASUS. If they'd release this with at least a GeForce 850M I'd buy this over the MBP Retina and Dell XPS 15 (Haswell).

I just hope it is offered in a matte version.

    Edit:
There's not much to say about the machine given the limited information but:
. No VGA out or sub woofer out visible on the right hand side.
. Otherwise the right hand side have the same ports as the UX51VZ: one USB ports, memory card reader slot and audio port.
. The keyboard doesn't have the recess of the UX51 - this could mean that the strike depth have been reduced.
. The key to frame spacing is much tighter than the current model, this should help against dust entering under the keys (which at least for me is a problem).
. The touchpad should be about the same size.
. And of course: the numeric keyboard part is gone.
. This makes it more likely that memory cards can be inserted fully instead of the very shallow insertion of the UX51.

Edit: The UX51VZ only have one USB port on the right hand side - not two.

You can usually tell the screen size by Asus's model numbering scheme. The "5" in it tells you it will be 15.6", if it were a UX700 then it would be 17.3".

Thanks for the information! I wasn't familiar with the Asus model number scheme.

I will say though if there is going to be a 4K 17.3" coming sometime this year I would put Asus as one of the manufacturers on a short list to have one.

I've been eye balling their 4k 31.5" LCD monitor. Still way to pricey, especially considering how much its come down in price since first release. Maybe another year off to make it irresistible.

Nice findings.. As usual, thick bezel is something that I really hate about Asus, unless they use black glossy glass to hide that thick display bezel...

Power, VGA mini port, HDMI, USB 3 (super speed icon). No DisplayPort, no Thunderbolt port :(
I wonder what the line in the front is for. Battery status perhaps? Could be just decoration.

It uses the same symbol Asus uses for their existing VGA mini port. The DisplayPort symbol is a black D fused with a white P as seen here: DisplayPort - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Well I do mind. I'll not buy an Apple machine until they can deliver matte screens and if Asus decides to offer the NX500 only with a glare screen (or glare glass sheet) I'll not buy one of those either...

I am interested in this notebook, but if it doesn't have at least two user replaceable m.2 or msata drives + either an 850m/860m maxwell based gpu I will likely wind up going with the gigabyte p35g v2 (provided the 860m in the p35g v2 turns out to be maxwell based).

Unfortunately, Asus tends to like proprietary drive interfaces on their zenbook line so I think that will be the nail in the coffin. Shame too, the zenbooks have great build quality.

The MSI gs60 would have been a 'shut up and take my money notebook', but they keplered it :(.

I can't bring myself to buy a Lenovo y50 given security concerns regarding their hardware.

C'mon Dell, add the 860m maxwell to your XPS 15!

    Edit:

I was avoiding the Lenovo as there have been rumors of hardware-level security issues, but it appears they may have been false.

If that is true, Asus has just developed the equivalent of "beer goggles" for laptop consumers. It's last call, and you never noticed it before, but suddenly the Gigabyte P35G V2 looks good... really good.

    So what we know yet:
    - 3840x2160 display panel
    - Haswell i7 (but quadcore or dualcore?!)
    - 4GB DDR3 starting model
    - HDD and SSD models (why still offer a HDD 'solution' in a highend notebook anno 2014, yeah to bring price down, but you lost half of a speedy machine)

Do we know GPU? Measurements? Weight? Any decent pics/vids without all the fancy blue lights

EDIT: appears to be 19mm thick, hope they put a maxwell GDDR5 GPU inside

That would be a disaster, even a DDR3 maxwell would be disappointing, but a 64bit DDR3 kepler part is just laughable
If thats true then... a 1000$ pricepoint would be more realistic...

it's terrible if it's true they still opt to use old GPU in the middle of 2014... Just make me more curious xD

*I doubt the GPU info from omglaptop website (which I never heard before), as even very reliable Notebook Italia website doesn't mention about the GPU info whether they use old GPU or not.

Well, in june macbooks probably refresh and almost for sure they will put in a GTX850M or GTX860M.
I am realy considering a macbook pro retina 15 now, but will only be running windows on. They always say they are expensive,
and they are, but nobody can offer a decent alternative, it always lack in one department, design or batterylife or display quality...
there are no alternatives... Dell XPS15 runs hot but refresh will only come in october/november, lenovo Y50 is just ugly, Razer blade not available in Europe..

No they aren't. If the screen isn't matte then it will be unusable in many cases no matter how good other specifications are. A strong backlight is no match to the sun and can even be overpowered by normal indoors lighting, good contrast doesn't help when there are mirror images and/or glare highlights and color precision will be lacking under real world conditions.
I bought one of the first mainstream notebooks that was equipped with a glare screen and for a while thought it to be extremely good (the specs wasn't that good compared with todays screens though). When I began actually using it as a notebook then the troubles began, while using a glare notebook as a desktop replacement or using a glossy screen for a desktop system can be made to work okay (but it still isn't easy IME) using the computer in an environment where one haven't precise control of all light sources just creates a mess.

If this will only be delivered with a glossy screen I will simply not buy it just as I'll not buy an Apple computer with glare screens

It's definitely not a matte display. With the NX500 being a touch-enabled notebook, the panel most likely has a piece of Gorilla Glass 3 covering it. You can easily spot reflections of spotlights in the ceiling and of the keyboard area of the notebook itself in Eeevolution's and Notebook Italia's videos respectively. An older, French article covering the NX500 states that the display has been glare-proofed. Whether this means additional treatment, or if the information proves unreliable or misleading remains to be seen.

Aside from the announcement of it having won an iF design award, Asus haven't revealed anything new since Milano Design Week 2014 as far as I'm aware. I've seen two stores selling PSUs they claim are for the NX500, which, if accurate, would help set our expectations for the innards, but they mismatch at 65W and 90W, leading me to believe that these stores have used little more than images of the connector to determine that the PSUs they stock are compatible. The fact that the speakers incorporate a titanium film is news from the previously mentioned design award I believe.

If it's true, I think it's a bad choice of asus, because in 2015 we'll see first broadwell laptop models. Since nx500 will not have (I presume) a broadwell processor, I think it'd be a wiser option from asus if they release their laptop earlier in 2014 than Christmas Time.
    What do you think guys?

    Announced at Computex:

15.6" 4K LCD with 100% NTSC & 108% Adobe RGB (touchscreen or not?)
    Core i7 (haswell or broadwell?)
    16GB RAM
    NVIDIA GTX 850M
    PCIe SSD
    19mm thick, 2.2kg
    96Wh Battery

    No pricing or availability information.

Lets just hope quality control will be better than with Dell XPS 15.
